Today in jig news
Mr.
Blunden's wife and
daughter danced an impromptu jig
of joy in. the
Bodleian
quadrangle when the
result was
announced to a crowd of M.A.s
by the University Senior Proctor, Dr. David Yardley.
Mr. Blunden, aged
69, when
told of his election to the £300 a year prestige post which has a tenure of five years, said: "What a bit of luck. I didn't expect to win. I've been out of England so long that I thought I might have been forgotten."
He said one of his aims as Pro-ressor would be to " decrease the number
of-peoplewho
hate
poetry"
and to introduce under-
graduates at his lectures to the lesser known English poets.

Today is my first day as a volunteer in Gloucester Cathedral’s medieval library. I’m starting a new (very) long term project to transcribe and translate one of the previously unstudied abbot’s cartularies containing 1146 charters from the 11th-14th centuries when the cathedral was St Peter’s Abbey.

Today in conservation
wander off into the Southwark backstreets to consult the Globe's impressive holdings in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century books or its considerable research library.
We were glad to see that the new research centre's holdings include plenty of material relating to Globe productions, including a script for the Titus Andronicus staged in 2014 that infamously prompted numerous members of the audience to faint. A script for that Titus is appropriately stained with fake blood, which will continue to pose a challenge to its archi-vists: it will affect the stability of the paper even in storage".
