In the 1860s, chess player Howard Staunton produced a photo-facsimile of Shakespeare's First Folio. It was one of the earliest attempts to use new technology to reproduce an old book. @folger.edu has Staunton’s proof sheets. I looked at them last week. If you like media/books/history, they're fun.

FT Berliner plea #InkyBusiness
With the slightest wind, my FT becomes a hang glider I admit it is unusual for a 27-year-old to still read the print edition of the Financial Times, but as a subscriber who has had the weekend edition delivered for over a decade, it is a nostalgic ritual.
However, I have a request. Please switch to a compact format - at least just for the summer months. Wrestling with a broadsheet while squeezed into seat 7E of a Ryanair flight to Béziers left me nearly elbowing my neighbours in their faces.
And please do not suggest I switch to the digital edition. Half the joy of the weekend print edition is reading it performatively, in public - but on a train, plane or beach, where I am writing this, the slightest gust of wind threatens to turn my newspaper into a hang-glider.
I would rather the next generation not endure the same struggle. Give us a compact option for the holidays (or permanently).
And please don't tell me it's about tradition. You already publish the Money supplement in compact format, which is precisely what gave me this idea.
