That became the narrative. Noting here that “date rape,” coined to describe the rape of a peer, was a new term. Stranger rape (or as Whoopi Goldberg later called it, rape-rape) was real: Someone grabbed you, threw you down, put a knife to your throat. Date rape was just bad sex.
