The other aspect is that buses aren't that frequent, therefore many pedestrians see that the bus isn't arriving yet, so let the cyclists pass by before they cross to the bus stop.

I've had two Shaun of the Dead "moments" recently, where Shaun's group passes his ex's group. Once with my running club, the other time whilst Green Party leafleting.

Of course, one would think it unlikely that the British state would prosecute a famous Irish author and an even more famous publishing house. But little about the terrorism law of the UK makes sense at the moment, since the ludicrous decision of then home secretary Yvette Cooper and the Home Office to proscribe what is essentially a direct-action protest group as a terrorist organisation.

Last week the Home Office published the statistics for terrorism-related offences. In its own words, “there were 3,867 arrests for terrorism-related activity in the year ending June 2026, 3,633 more than in the year ending June 2025 (234), a rise of 1,553%; and 1,525% higher than the historical 10-year median of 238 arrests”.

The “terrorism-related activity” is, of course, mainly people holding placards stating they support Palestine Action.

These are extraordinary and discrediting figures. Terrorism law should be taken seriously.

Fantastic photos. One of the few times I've seen a Kingfisher was in the Men's swimming pond in Hampstead, London. An advantage of swimming side stroke is being able to watch the wildlife.

The auto companies have had plenty of time to restructure towards battery vehicles, but they chose not to. Under capitalism, they should therefore fail.

Do Muricans understand the significance of the growing global movement to get away from US-based products and services? Do they fully understand why that's happening? There are millions of decent Muricans, but the Orange Gimp is destroying the USA. Nobody trusts the USA anymore.

Has this person ever cycled? These arrangements result in buses having to turn across cyclists, putting them into danger and/or buses being slowed down by cyclists as they wait to cross over the hatched lane. "Give special attention" never works out well.

Taxing private jets at the same rate as regular flights, and ending the tax exemption on plane fuel could give the Chancellor an extra £2.7 bn. £2.7bn for our green transport networks! With other MPs I am calling on the Govt to end the tax breaks for wealthy private jet users. buff.ly/B65XyNf

Both can be correct. We can reduce overall carbon intensity by switching most of the intra-day levelling to batteries (see California). The existing gas power stations can then just be kept for longer term (e.g. dunkelflaute), but that will have contract/cost implications (owning an unused asset).

I talk a lot about major transport investment, but one of the biggest bangs for the buck policy-wise would be a full pavement parking ban and more rigid enforcement of traffic rules. Enforcement is so lax that this stuff is just completely normalised now, and it's unacceptable.
