French school protests? 😳 Did someone accidentally serve them 1970s British school dinners? You know, anemic chips, a couple of sausages stuck to the plate with strands of fat and then whatever semolina actually was for pudding.

Just tax the compute. Datacentre? Cool. Fund your own power generation and water reservoirs, and then pay tax for every computational act your datacentre does. And we'll use the tax income to offset societal and job damage. Overnight, AI becomes something AI giants are desperate to restrict.

Decent piece here. London plans to increase tree cover by 10% from 2016 levels but hundreds of saplings died in the heat waves. The GLA, Kew Gardens and Trees for Cities are now researching which species can withstand both the hot, dry summers and the wetter winters. Results due next year

Hmm, if university staff go on strike, the university doesn't pay them, which means the university spends less of the money it doesn't have. I wonder at what point people stop paying student fees/giving research grants/contracts? Until then it seems like a financial win for the universities.

I've now seen several posts on here from people saying effectively, "I've never listened to a party leader/PM speech before, but I did listen to Andy Burnham and it was the best speech I've heard". That might not be the ringing endorsement they intended it to be.

Oh, and if you want me to be very controversial, I also dehydrate and then powder some of my garlic harvest so I can just sprinkle it into dishes without mess or fuss months later. Although I do wonder how many of these garlic connoisseurs do actually grow their own bulbs.

My house insulation is making it's presence felt again: the heating hasn't been put on so the house is quite cool (which suits me fine). When I went out for a walk after work this evening I was hit by how much warmer it was outside than indoors. Toasty for late September.

You've got to feel really sorry for the people in older properties that weren't at risk of flooding until the double whammy of #ClimateChange induced extreme weather events and dickwads being allowed to re-engineer flood plains to let them build all over them.

My neighbour was quoted silly money to fix her lovely 1950's Singer 222K sewing machine, so she asked me if I'd take a look. Loose wire in the electric motor connector, took me about 10 minutes to diagnose with a simple multimeter and £0 to fix. #repair #win

I’ve reached the point - well actually, I reached it a while ago - where I’m militantly anti-AI. Fine - use it in bioscience labs and radiology where it might help analyse data more effectively. Use it sparingly for systems engineering. Everywhere else, it can fuck off.

We're certainly going to have to reconsider the idea that "native plants == good, imported plant == bad" as our natural native varieties are going to struggle against some of the conditions we're going to face in decades to come. We're forcing eco-system change at very high rates. #GardenersWorld
