The UK now needs to introduce political spending limits across a parliament, not just for election campaign years. Otherwise, its election spending rules could fall over. Current rules: parties have a limit (about £34m) for 12 months before an election - but no limits outside the 12 month period.

After these massive donations, what more does Labour need to persuade it that it is high time - well past the time - to take big money out of UK politics? Sitting back and doing nothing for fear of offending some trade union leaders, and Labour's own corporate donors, is likely to be suicidal.

...response is to ask party members to make more donations to the party! Leaving aside the fact that would mean £200 donation from each member, it completely misses the point that if two crypto-billionaires can donate £72 million in a week, they (and others) can easily donate £720 million!..
