A court has approved a request from Marcin Romanowski, a fugitive former government minister from the opposition PiS party, to receive safe passage back to Poland. He is currently believed to be in Transnistria. The decision was condemned by the justice minister, who said prosecutors would appeal.

The EU court has rejected Poland's request to suspend implementation of the EU’s free trade agreement with the South American Mercosur bloc. It found that Poland had failed to demonstrate that the deal would cause serious harm to farmers, consumers or the environment.

One person was killed and four were injured in a knife attack at a Catholic convent in Poland this morning, with clergy among the victims. Police have detained a 31-year-old Ukrainian man on suspicion of carrying out the attack. The motive remains unknown.

Moody’s, one of the big three global credit rating agencies, has cut Poland’s rating from A2 to A3. The last time the agency had Poland at such a low level of creditworthiness was in 2002. It is the first time any of the big three have downgraded Poland since 2016.
