If I were running a university where staff spent weeks and weeks of time putting grant proposals together only for UKRI to feed them into LLMs without informed consent—effectively theft of the time and work—I’d be taking serious action to defend those staff. But I’m not running a university, so

Does anyone here make use of a database or similar to catalogue what they have? Would like a quick way to locate material (physical and electronic), but would a simple spreadsheet do? Suggestions welcome.

Incredible BBC-ing from the BBC here, responding to the axing of their queer-led shows like I Kissed a Boy/I Kissed a Girl and Drag Race UK by pointing out they’ve got Mr Loverman (a one-off miniseries aired in 2024) and some token gays in Amandaland
The BBC recently announced Smoggie Queens, which features predominantly
LGBTQ+ characters, would be renewed for a third series, and it represents the
community elsewhere through storylines in shows including Mr Loverman, Amandaland, Vigil and EastEnders.

Higher education regulator apologises for imposing £585,000 fine on university
Office for Students made decision to punish University of Sussex with fine last year after claiming it breached free speech regulations England’s higher education regulator has apologised for a string of mistakes in its decision to punish the University of Sussex with a record fine that was later overturned by the high court. The Office for Students (OfS) tried to impose a £585,000 fine against Sussex last year after claiming the university breached free speech regulations involving its former professor Kathleen Stock. It was forced to back down in April after a judicial review initiated by Sussex found the OfS “had closed its mind” and acted with bias. Continue reading...

This isn't about any policy in particular, but I hate it when the government changing direction on something is reported as a "U turn" and a sign of weakness. Don't we want a government who listens to us and can, on occasion, say yes you're right let's change the policy on this. That's a good thing!
