Have read quite a few Victorian novels this year, and I have to say, they feel really relevant to the modern age, more modern than modernist books, somehow.

We have something very cute to share with you today 🦉 This summer, a pair of barn owls successfully reared four owlets at Kedleston Hall, marking Kedleston's first known breeding success in over two decades.

Four young barn owls jostle onto the small wooden ledge of their nest box, fixed to a huge oak tree behind them

A young barn owl in flight, its wings stretched up above it against a blurry green background, its white heart-shaped face facing the camera

🌱 #flowersonFriday Spotted in West Hampstead yesterday, a huge Oleander bush covered in pink flowers. I used to think it was too tender to grow outside in Britain but I have seen a few examples in London this summer, looking beautiful and coping well with the heat and drought.

A huge shrub overhanging a brick wall and almost blocking out the house behind. It is covered with pink flowers.

A close up of the pink flowers. Each one has five petals, flatted on the edge and looking like the twisted blades of a fan. The leaves are long and pointed.

𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵 has a reassuringly ordinary appearance. It is yellow, abundant and quite content to grow where nobody planted it. 🌼 This is often how the most interesting plants begin their careers. 🔎 Jacobaea vulgaris 🌱 #FlowersOnMonday #NaturePhotography #botany #Niedersachsen #wildflowers

A dense cluster of yellow flowers of Jacobaea vulgaris (common ragwort) fills the foreground. Numerous daisy-like flower heads are grouped together, each with bright yellow, narrow ray florets surrounding a yellow, textured central disc. Some flower heads are fully open, while others are still developing or partially open. The blossoms are borne on slender, branching green stems with deeply divided, feathery green leaves. Several unopened buds are visible among the flowers.
