Very excited to see this Focus Issue/Collection on "Translating From Arabidopsis" coming to fruition! Thanks to Patrice Salome, John Lovell, & Adrienne Roeder for this awesome cover. More articles should be online soon; watch this space academic.oup.com/plcell/pages...
Cover of The Plant Cell, showing an Arabidopsis plant front and center. Beside it lies a plot generated by GENESPACE (Lovell et al., 2022) which finds and plots sets of adjacent homologous genes in 'syntenic' blocks across genomes. Each colored braid in the plot connects a syntenic block. Blocks are colored and chromosomes (white rectangles) are ordered by synteny to the five Arabidopsis chromosomes. Synteny is generally across these seven species, but degrades sharply with evolutionary distance and repeated polyploidy events. The plant species used for this plot were field mustard (Brassica rapa), pennycress (Thlaspi arvense), camelina (Camelina sativa), Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana, Araport 11), grapevine (Vitis vinifera), common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), and soybean (Glycine max).
