Big thanks to Blake Meyers for visiting this week. It was a great honor to host him 10 years since I worked in his lab. This REU solidified my desire to become a plant scientist! His contributions to the field are incredible and its always fantastic to get to attend one of his lectures.

Here, my postdoc, Kaili Mao and I, propose a hypothesis that could explain the diverse types of observed graft incompatibilities: that the naturally selected for balance between regeneration and immunity has been co-opted for the anthropogenic act of grafting. www.frontiersin.org/journals/pla...

We have a crispr line w/ 5bp del and phenotype. We can see the edit in gDNA seq, but reads mapped + RT-PCR levels are normal, and the protein can be detected at (we think) full protein mass. In the OE, reads are higher but phenotype look like crispr pheno? What could be going on. Any thoughts? 🤡

Ohhhh yes ! Here’s a summary of the menu at our #PlantMicrobeJC
An edited version of a common comic strip format from XKCD comics titled “types of scientific paper”. This one focuses on plant-microbe papers, and the titles of the papers are:
- why the zig zag model isn’t entirely true
- FERONIA is at it again
- we found a mutant with a different X and did some ROS
- we looked at a billion genomes and found these genes in more plants and algae
- we swapped parts of this protein with something else and it does new stuff
- stop extrapolating things from arabidopsis
A
- sorry but you need to remember all your cell biology for this one
- we have cool results but check out our microscopy
- phosphoproteomics! Any questions?
- this microbe is both good and bad
- look what we can do with alpha gold!
