Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

Every electron counts⚛️! Researchers have determined the structure of the protein rubredoxin at an unprecedented 0.43 Ångström resolution. The method could now allow routine quantum crystallography of biological macromolecules. 👇More about this major advancement: www.mpinat.mpg.de/5314392/rn_2...
The image shows a valence electron deformation map of archaeal rubredoxin at 0.43 Ångström resolution: Refinement of the archaeal rubredoxin structure with the DiSCaMB transferable aspherical atom model (TAAM) library connected to BUSTER directly reveals quantum mechanical phenomena. The rubredoxin protein model (sticks) is surrounded by the electron density map (blue to red: low to high density). This valence electron deformation map derived from model refinement reveals electrons in the midpoint of chemical bonds and (valence) electron lone pairs.

Molybdenum doesn't pop to mind when we think of elements biological system needs, nor does tungsten. But for some of the earliest forms of life on Earth, they might have been vital. 🧪⚒️ Link: www.nature.com/articles/s41467-026-…
Bacterial homologs that catalyze steps in the Moco synthesis pathway are shown in (a) with corresponding homologs in humans, plants, and fungi (Aspergillus nidulans and Neurospora crassa) detailed in (b). Chemical structures for the FeMo cofactor (FeMoco) and the unmodified form of the Mo cofactor (Moco or Mo-MPT for molybdopterin) incorporated by the SO family are also shown. The AOR, DMSOR, and XO families of enzymes require additional modification of Moco (or Wco for W-bound pterin) prior to enzyme incorporation. Chemical structures for these modified cofactors are depicted in (c) where asterisks refer to previous observations of the presence of either Mo or W in cofactors, as has been shown for certain enzymes of the DMSOR and AOR families. Unlike other Moco-using enzymes that contain a single metal center (mononuclear), aerobic carbon monoxide dehydrogenases (CODH) incorporate a binuclear [CuSMo] cluster. These enzymes are grouped into the XO family based on similarities in their coordination of the Mo atom.
