The Tories have announced they would abolish Natural England, support a Third Runway & pull the UK out of the Aarhus Convention - in further signs they’ve totally given up on Middle England, don’t give a toss about the environment & just want to please some wealthy grouse moor owners & raving YIMBYs
Tory party press release: “[We will leave the Aarhus] Convention that powers the lawfare hindering every major infrastructure project in this country.”

“Abolish Natural England and the Environment Agency, moving to a more streamlined regulatory landscape to protect our environment.”Tory PR: “Support a Third Runway at Heathrow Airport and wider expansion, increasing capacity to deliver cheaper flights, better connections for passengers, and more exports of high-value British goods.”

Back to SW France which retains much of the nature of my youth in the Cotswolds. The gathering of house martins on and around the church in Puycelsi this morning was mind-blowing.

An unforgettable afternoon at the Dungeness Fishing Boats when at c14:15 I picked up a fabulous BROWN BOOBY feeding amongst a group of Gannets offshore. Panic ensued but the 5 of us got on the bird before MC summoned more eyes from DBO & local birding community. Photos obtained by others… 🌟 Bird !!!

The Iberian Chiffchaff (third Dungeness record) was definitely today's highlight after it finally settled at the top of the Long Pits. Listen to its song below, put over Ross Newham's image. The sea provided a few bits this eve, including 1000+ Common/commic Terns and a Pomarine Skua. #kentbirding

Sadly I heard a few days ago that John Tilbrook died on 22nd Nov last year, a day after his 87th birthday . John had a stroke about seven years ago and was pretty much housebound from then on. Many of you will have fond memories of John or JT as we called in . He’s catchphrases will live on though

Today's lunch bench view: Leybourne Lakes Country Park. Whilst checking out www.kentcrp.org.uk 's leaflet route, nice to see sign promoting close control for dogs. And nice to see beautiful British warblers in the park 😉 (An 8-station journey for me, for less than cost of an advent calendar)
A view over Ocean Lake, looking towards the North Downs.Yay, paper maps. Who needs a mobile phone?Dog owners know what close control means - if off lead, in sight at all times and comes when called.Chiffchaff

St Ives Island. An ‘all-dayer’. 13 Leach’s Petrel, 2 Cory’s, 3 ESP, 2 Pomarine Skua, 1 Little Auk, 2 Puffin, 3 Little Gull, 8 Sootys & a Snow Bunting with 000’s Kitts, Auks etc. But the highlight was the Loggerhead Turtle off the NCI gully for a few mins. #cornwallbirding Pic thanks to Adam H
This little guy was off The Island on the east side. It drifted off towards the beaches with the incoming tide. Apparently the BMDS were called and if it’s seen again it should be captured for rehabilitation.
