Cool news from the @naturetrek.bsky.social tour I’m on in the Camargue — we had a rare for France Black Pennant (Selysiothemis nigra) #dragonfly that Kelly Burgess found and photographed beautifully. Leader Jason Mitchell’s info following. Wow!! Great tour & super cool bug #invertebrates
A gray and yellow female dragonfly with black stripes on the abdomen, perched on a dry grass seed headText: The Black Pennant dragonfly (Selysiothemis nigra) is recent addition to the fauna of continental France, having been officially recorded there for the first time in July 2020. This small, highly mobile migratory dragonfly species is natively found across Central Asia, the Middle East, and parts of North Africa, but is rapidly expanding its territory northward across Europe due to rising global temperatures…..did we mention we saw a Black Pennant [goofy emoji]
