As Chicagoans Prepare To Bike The Drive, Some Dream Of A Car-Free Lakefront All Year
For five hours each year, thousands of Chicagoans take over the highway on bikes and on foot. As the event turns 25, advocates are imagining what else could change along the lakefront.

“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.” Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life. Common sense. Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.

The absolute worst place to speed is in a neighborhood. The beginning of trips are spent adjusting mirrors, radios, and maps leading to distractions. Sharing a photo set from The White Line about speeding. Please be safe out there.

If vehicles keep swelling, cities “could lose between 8.5-14% of their on-street parking capacity by 2040. London and Berlin alone are each projected to shed around 100K spaces…in dense cities, it’s a major issue worldwide.” #Carspreading pushes out more than parking spots. Tax cars by the inch.
