The 28-mile-long CSSC, stretching from Damen Avenue in Chicago to north of 9th Street in Lockport, was built between 1892 and 1900. The MWRD later extended the canal by four miles and constructed the Lockport Powerhouse and Lock from 1903 to 1907.
