Today's mission is to hang on to my marbles/spoons, and: 1. Draw more moth 2. Somehow get this fluffy, flyaway little shitpickle of a pigment into a jar, without making the air filter so furious it esplodes 3. Survive a studio inspection from Flatline 🐾 4. Excavate a layer of inbox Pray for me.
My hand drawing in a picture of three dry leaf coloured hawkmoths on a circular background of fallen dry leaves. They are well camouflaged, so the background is bisected diagonally and in the top half the leaves are faded, to better show off the moths beautiful colours. They're very good moths, you see.A big bag of blue pigment labelled as Phthalo blue primary PB15:1, light stable, 100g. That may not sound like much but the particles of this pigment are light, fluffy, flyaway little bastards. So 100g takes up more room than something more obliging like a yellow or red ochre. Also I'm more used to calling this phthalo blue red shade. One more reason why pigment index names like PB15:1 are important.A fluffy longhaired black cat with yellow eyes sitting on my squishy standing mat in the studio. It is judging me.

Hey Bluesky, could you help spread the word? My goal for the day is one new sale. Here's a lovely pic of some of the Jeremy Creatures currently available at my shop. Each one is designed and hand-sewed by me and takes many hours to create. jeremycreature.bigcartel.com
Here's a lovely pic of some of my hand-sewn, fabric art Jeremy Creatures. The ground is green fur and the background is a beautiful galaxy print fabric. One creature is a gray rock with two different sizes black eyes and a little frown. There's a tall ghost with about 35 black eyes of different sizes and a wide mouth full of sharp teeth. There's another spirit with many eyes, twirly head wisps, and an open mouth with sharp teeth. There's also a ghost with a tiny face, with two different sized eyes and a little frown. There's a black ghost with a gray moon face, their body covered with hand-embroidered stars and planets of various sizes and colors. There's a frowny white ghost featuring embroidered red flowers. There's a super tiny frowny white ghost, and a super tiny black ghost with four eyes and embroidered stars.

Am I allowed to be unreasonably excited because I just got delivery of a new (to me) pigment? One that might help me solve a mystery from a collection of old pigments I inherited 7(ish) yrs ago?? Cos I'm trying to be sensible about it… But TBH I just wanna scamper around my kitchen yelling eeeee!

Listen, online life is getting (waves hands) a bit much for me today, & so I'm gonna log out & draw some more & play video games for a minute. So… Sunday pigment/paint shenanigans, but early: I'm trying out making watercolour binder with street cherry & peach tree gums, to compare with gum arabic.
A steel pot of water on a hob, in which 2 beakers and a bottle of amber liquid are being kept warm. They're labelled as cherry, peach, and GA (gum arabic) normal. They're different tree saps being dissolved for use in watercolour binder.

I'd set a stopwatch for how long it takes from this absolute wankbasketry to when someone decides that slop-machines deserve more pain support than, yknow, human chronic pain patients like me… …But we already know the bros (in tech, DHSC, or healthcare committees) give vastly more shits about 'AI'.

Sun is shining on today's warm-up doodle. Today we draw! 💖 ✏️
A colour pencil doodle of a floating island. It's kinda heart shaped, with a meandering river valley and water running off the edge. It's got a red sun setting or rising behind it.

All these things are true: I just woke up in an absolute fucktonne of pain. I just woke up safe in my home, next to someone I love, being trampled by a delightfully ridiculous cat, feeling extremely lucky. I really don't fkn like having chronic pain. I really do fkn love my life…
A deliberately unfinished colour pencil drawing of a collection of debris; two matchsticks, some feathers seeds and a petal threaded together, and a long bent metal nail.

There’s a bit in Neal Stephenson’s The Diamond Age where someone finds a scrap of handwoven fabric and unravels it, whilst being utterly baffled by how the ubiquitous 3-D printers could possibly have fabricated it. In this age of AI, I think of this increasingly often.

I really love pencils. Like when my eyes finally crap out I'm gonna keep drawing anyway, IDC. Like... I think I can survive all the world's bullshit awhile as long as I have some pencils. (Being able to make people small good things of paint is definitely a joy & a bonus, but mostly? Pencils.)

Quilt hanging on a card catalog. Neutral background with navy cursive appliqué “Do you hear thr people sing?” The background is embroidered in red starting light and getting bolder the lyrics to “killing in the name” the quilting effect is a focused sunburst from the center.

It's been a while since I've done a smol good things thread, but I think I need one today. Small good things in a fkd up world: 1. I made this many colours of paint today 2. Tiny stripey jumping spoods seem to be doing well here
A town of 11 syringes of various sizes filled with freshly made watercolour paint. The paints are in shades of greens, blues, and violets, mostly based on various green earths, red ochres, and ultramarines. The syringes range from 20 to 60 mL. They're all labelled on yellow tape in scrawly illegible handwriting that I can't read without my good specs on.A tiny grey and brown jumping spider pootling about on the metal edges of an outdoor frame. It's friggin adorable.

The sea on an autumn day. The water is grey-green with small waves, one of which is breaking on a pebble beach. There's fluffy clouds in the sky. Not shown: juvenile gulls hunkered down on the beach behind me squinting at the crows strutting down the shoreline like they just don't care.

Here's a lovely photo of a plethora of hand-sewn fabric art creatures. There's a watermelon creature with a red face, eight black seed-like eyes, and a wide mouth with five sharp teeth. There's a white ghost trinket bag covered with purple embroidered flowers. She has a gray face, sparkly black eyes and a little frown. There's a strawberry creature with three bulbous green eyes. There's a watermelon ghost, and a black creature with sharp teeth wearing a bulbous eye earring. There's a large purple creature with many yellow eyes and an open mouth, with a little green creature popping her head out. A poem and drawing for your saturday
A poem titled "Swim to Me", made up of 2 haikus. Below them is a black and white drawing. The text of the poem reads:

"in the turning flood
unable to see the shore
scared of the tumult

you reached for my hand
'Kick!' you said. "Breathe. Swim to me.'
and I found the strength."

The drawing is a black and white ink-pen drawing made of abstract shapes and lines that probably looks like a man with weirdly formed arms swimming through the water, doing some version of the breast stroke. His head is up and he is looking forward, but his expression is uncertain.

Librarians! Zine-Makers! This new Temporary Services zine (made with @doormouse12.bsky.social) is for you! We interviewed 4 public librarians that maintain zine collections and the result is a beautiful 44 page booklet. See and learn how they do it! $10.00 (or $3.00 PDF) from www.halfletterpress.com
From the front and back cover of the booklet:

Public Librarians Discuss Zine Collections

We asked librarians at four public libraries to talk about their library’s zine collection. What advice can they share with zine makers that want to get their work into a public library, or librarians that want to start a collection at their library? Was it hard to convince others that zines are a resource that the library should collect? What collecting models did they follow? How did they build the collection?

Interviewees:

Possible signs/symptoms that you may run arts workshops: - you own at least 1 crate like this - your collage materials have their own crate - you collect used pens for recycling - you couldn't find the potato peeler in ur own house, but can come up with 20 set squares/scissors/etc in 5 secs flat
A big plastic wheelie crate with the contents emptied out. It includes: boxes of art supplies labeled as for under 4 year olds, ages 4+, Sharpies and sketching pencils. A giant box of assorted scissors a sack of felt tip pens and pencils in bundles, a stack of boxes of pastels, a jar full of dice, a zipper bag full of precision scissors, glue sticks, and paintbrushes, a carton of acrylic gouache paints, a box of pencil sharpeners and erasers, and a jar marked for plastic pens for recycling. There's a stack of paper pads and boxes of fancy-ass pencils left in the crate. Whew. It's a fucken lot, I tells you.

In 2011, one chick held the record for most plastic ever found in the species: 276 pieces, 64g. We thought that was as bad as it could get. We were wrong. The record fell in 2023. Fell again in 2024. Then in 2025: 894 pieces in a single chick. (Photo: worst chicks in 2010, 2015, 2021, 2025)
Photographs of plastic on a black background from the most affected shearwater chick in 2010 (A; maybe 20 cm2), 2015 (B; maybe 20 cm2), 2021 (C; now 15x20 cm) and 2025 (30x20 cm)

Haven't had much time to draw this week or last, but I've still been doing the breakfast doodle warm-ups to make sure my hands don't forget how a pencil works! It's all about practice. Quite like this pocket landscape. Might do another without the big trees, not so fond of them. Still a fun doodle!
A watercolour sketchbook page covered in pencil doodles of trompe l'oeil holes and canyons, little colour swatches, and a small landscape in one corner. The landscape is of a river winding through fjords, with silhouettes of trees, and a few big trees in the foreground. The river waterfalls off the edge of the page. The shading is not particularly smooth in places, but that's because I'm the kind of asshat that draws in pencil on my watercolour paper sometimes.A close up on the small landscape described in the previous pic. Most of the landscape is in dark sepia with the river in grey-green and greenish blues. The foreground tree shapes are in moss green and to be honest I don't like them, but this was still a fun doodle & experiment so it's all good. This is how we learn, & the worst doodle is still better than so-called-AI slop.
