I think that's more my camera struggling with the light in that corner, they're sort of light brown beige-ish, I think? IDK I'll go and check again later 🤷

Yeah, freds are pretty chilled. Unless you're the house spider they wanna eat I guess!

Anyway, the main point is: Change happens, and this is hopeful! Even small changes, like someone being nicer to spiders, shows that change is possible, & sometimes hate can be overcome. 💖 Not everybody is gonna change, I know. But sometimes you meet people where they are & change does happen. 🕷️😌

I mean they have so many common names already, so why not? 😂

Moths in a human suit (they/them) @lycomorpha.bsky.social · 14h
…from back when Fred was a more common human 1st name. So it's kinda like calling them Joe Bloggs or some other placeholder name. I think sometimes harvest spiders (which aren't really spiders, I know don't @ me) get called daddy long legs too? Kinda fun how many different common names they have!

It caught a brown house spider as a snack. Apparently they can even eat sprinters/giant house spiders/Eratigena atrica?? 🙃 Where I am, Pholcus phalangioides are called Freds, and the name daddy-long-legs is reserved for common cranefly. I assume the name fred comes from them being so common...

OK, so assuming non-spider people aren't looking now. I'm so proud of Kitty. 🥹 They've gone from hating & hoovering up house spiders, to evicting them with a cup & card, to bringing me exciting household spider news. Like this Fred/cobweb spider/cellar spider/daddy long legs/why-so-many-names??
A long-legged Fred, AKA cobweb spider, AKA cellar spider, AKA a hundred other names depending where you live. It's a my kitchen wall, next to a brown house spider that is captured and wrapped in silk as a lil snacky treat.

Update: it didn't explode but it does want a new filter. Might let it settle down a bit first tho, ey... Haven't seen it go past magenta alert for a while. 😬 (Also - this is why I'm always telling you to wear an appropriate respirator & not to redecorate ur lungs!)
The grill and display of a very, very angry air filter. It shows the red warning light, and the 'bitch, gimme a fresh filter, what is this bullshit?' light is now on.

Today's mission is to hang on to my marbles/spoons, and: 1. Draw more moth 2. Somehow get this fluffy, flyaway little shitpickle of a pigment into a jar, without making the air filter so furious it esplodes 3. Survive a studio inspection from Flatline 🐾 4. Excavate a layer of inbox Pray for me.
My hand drawing in a picture of three dry leaf coloured hawkmoths on a circular background of fallen dry leaves. They are well camouflaged, so the background is bisected diagonally and in the top half the leaves are faded, to better show off the moths beautiful colours. They're very good moths, you see.A big bag of blue pigment labelled as Phthalo blue primary PB15:1, light stable, 100g. That may not sound like much but the particles of this pigment are light, fluffy, flyaway little bastards. So 100g takes up more room than something more obliging like a yellow or red ochre. Also I'm more used to calling this phthalo blue red shade. One more reason why pigment index names like PB15:1 are important.A fluffy longhaired black cat with yellow eyes sitting on my squishy standing mat in the studio. It is judging me.

Hey Bluesky, could you help spread the word? My goal for the day is one new sale. Here's a lovely pic of some of the Jeremy Creatures currently available at my shop. Each one is designed and hand-sewed by me and takes many hours to create. jeremycreature.bigcartel.com
Here's a lovely pic of some of my hand-sewn, fabric art Jeremy Creatures. The ground is green fur and the background is a beautiful galaxy print fabric. One creature is a gray rock with two different sizes black eyes and a little frown. There's a tall ghost with about 35 black eyes of different sizes and a wide mouth full of sharp teeth. There's another spirit with many eyes, twirly head wisps, and an open mouth with sharp teeth. There's also a ghost with a tiny face, with two different sized eyes and a little frown. There's a black ghost with a gray moon face, their body covered with hand-embroidered stars and planets of various sizes and colors. There's a frowny white ghost featuring embroidered red flowers. There's a super tiny frowny white ghost, and a super tiny black ghost with four eyes and embroidered stars.

Listen, online life is getting (waves hands) a bit much for me today, & so I'm gonna log out & draw some more & play video games for a minute. So… Sunday pigment/paint shenanigans, but early: I'm trying out making watercolour binder with street cherry & peach tree gums, to compare with gum arabic.
A steel pot of water on a hob, in which 2 beakers and a bottle of amber liquid are being kept warm. They're labelled as cherry, peach, and GA (gum arabic) normal. They're different tree saps being dissolved for use in watercolour binder.

I'd set a stopwatch for how long it takes from this absolute wankbasketry to when someone decides that slop-machines deserve more pain support than, yknow, human chronic pain patients like me… …But we already know the bros (in tech, DHSC, or healthcare committees) give vastly more shits about 'AI'.

& I'm simply asking you to consider that all these things can be true before you tell me you'd rather die than live with my chronic illnesses. If nowt else, this life has taught me who is worth sharing my time & spoons with. Who values me as a whole person, & who doesn't. Thank you for your time.
A deliberately unfinished colour pencil drawing of a small metal tack, a beech leaf with a feather threaded through it and an unburned match torn from a paper matchbook. Underneath the words "is the sense of loss worth it? I think so." are scrawled in pencil.

All these things are true: I just woke up in an absolute fucktonne of pain. I just woke up safe in my home, next to someone I love, being trampled by a delightfully ridiculous cat, feeling extremely lucky. I really don't fkn like having chronic pain. I really do fkn love my life…

There’s a bit in Neal Stephenson’s The Diamond Age where someone finds a scrap of handwoven fabric and unravels it, whilst being utterly baffled by how the ubiquitous 3-D printers could possibly have fabricated it. In this age of AI, I think of this increasingly often.

I really love pencils. Like when my eyes finally crap out I'm gonna keep drawing anyway, IDC. Like... I think I can survive all the world's bullshit awhile as long as I have some pencils. (Being able to make people small good things of paint is definitely a joy & a bonus, but mostly? Pencils.)

The layers are like a kinda meditation sometimes! (Except for the 10s between when I suddenly realise I've relaxed & defocused my eyes & aaaa fuckfuckfuck I can't see, & realising my hands know what they're doing & everything's fine. Those are just pure panic. But other than that I love shading 😂🤣)

Four light coloured pencils, in creams and beiges hues, being held up in front of the moth drawing in this thread. These are the palest colours that will be used on the moths and in detailing the leaves. The light coloured pencils from the previous pic being used to add highlights and pale stripes to the moths wings.A close up on the first of the darker shading colours being used to fill in a layer on the moths body.Five colour pencils in increasingly dark shades of brown being held up in front of the moth drawing.
