Around here FMS is short for the expression of surprise 'fuck me sideways'. As in 'well, fuck me sideways, the government did summat useful!' Today I learned FMS is also an abbreviation for something to do with planes, I think. I just got. Very. Confused. Listening to a news article…

Reminds of when I was listening to an Ed Zitron newsletter, & my screen-reader decided to read out the acronym BPS as 'bits per second', instead of the intended meaning of 'basis points' (a thing to do with bonds)... It took a fucken while and a half to work out what was going on there lololol

QRT is used here for "quote retweet". In ham radio it's used to mean "I am transmitting at low power/I'm lowing my transmission power". But it can alternatively mean "please transmit at lower power"; or, interpreted slightly differently, "quiet down/shut up".
