“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back to a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.” IT SAVES PUBLIC MONEY to house people.

I have to say, I'm puzzled how this is helpful. This shuts down the entire decision making capacity of the government for a month during a critical time, confusing average people who don't follow politics closely between provincial vs. local candidates, and is losing BC some of its best ministers.

Lately I've been pondering the ideas from Robert Pirsig's book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, specifically Pirsig's thoughts on Quality, and how they relate to generative AI. Looks like I'm not the only one. Worth the read if you enjoy philosophical blog posts. :)

One of my pet peeves is function parameter naming. If you're passing an argument through several layers of code, just keep its name the same. Eg. don't have it change its name from var "allowUpdate" to a parameter "update_allowed", then to another parameter "updateAllowed".

On the flight from Armenia to Germany I saw a dude with a stack of four 3.5" hard drives. And I calculated: ~8TB per drive x4 = ~32TB total, ~5hrs flight, count another ~5 hours to/from airport, makes for ~1GiB/s. That's pretty good bandwidth for that distance! 🤯 Terrible latency though.
