Reviewers and previewers who are all about indie productions, cats, grassroots community action, and/or solo games, take note! This is a game with 3D-printed cat cubes (they have cute lil ears!) about managing feral cat populations AND it will be at the Indie Games Night Market at PAXU!

Normally, I would say “you’re getting Infamous Traffic? I guess I don’t need it!” but at this point, I’m too caught up in having the whole Wehrlegig set that I’m gonna back it too.

I don’t know Paul Simon is the greatest living songwriter, but the older I get, the more I’m sure he’s the one I feel most connected to. The Obvious Child is such a striking example; I don’t think I’ve heard another writer express my experience of realizing how easy I’ve had it as I get older.

They were so young when they started, but they always knew how to add an element of movement to their songs. Every verse and chorus in a song has some sort of melodic or structural change, and bridges that create a dynamic shift. It makes for compelling songs, and they were doing it from the jump.

I went to go see The Format last night in concert. I’ve been a big fan for 20+ years (and they’ve been on hiatus for about that long!), and I realized a huge part of what set them apart from a lot of their contemporaries is they really know how to structure a song.

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

Watched Picnic at Hanging Rock for the first time after years of meaning to. So supremely up my alley. I love works that deal with how folks handle unresolved mystery and the grief it causes, and this has quickly placed itself right up there with John Darnielle’s Universal Harvester in that space.

There’s really nothing to say in comment on Bret’s latest that Toni Morrison didn’t say perfectly 51 years ago.
It's important, therefore, to know who the real enemy is, and to know the function, the very serious function of racism, which is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining over and over again, your reason for being. Somebody says you have no language and so you spend 20 years proving that you do. Somebody says your head isn't shaped properly so you have scientists working on the fact that it is. Somebody says that you have no art so you dredge that up. Somebody says that you have no kingdoms and so you dredge that up. None of that is necessary. There will always be one more thing.

I’m just really excited about making physical copies of some of my games. I’m so glad the flip switched in my brain from “gotta convince a publisher to make these” to “I have some money, I can just print a handful of them myself”. Hugely liberating.

This has been a big switch flipped for me too. I’ve always been allergic to the pitch process, so embracing a more indie, DIY spirit has made the design process feel a lot more fun.

I think that may be just a linguistic quirk of its use in English. Punishing as an adjective is used more to indicate something is difficult or exhausting. It’s disconnected from its use as a verb.

Luke Williams @luke6080.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
I think it’s more of an emotional claim. All sorts of games register as punishing for all sorts of reasons (randomness from dice, difficulty of execution, what other players can do to your position), so I think it’s more about enjoying the experience of those negative emotions.

Oh this is spot fucking on, especially this part:
When Obama said he supported civil unions in the run-up to the 2008 and 2012 elections, he was offering gay people a slower pace of progress. When Democrats today triangulate on transgender rights, they are offering us a slower pace of decline.

Got in a game of Age of Steam! I bounced off the system on my first play of it like two years ago, but every time I’ve played it since, I’ve enjoyed it more and more. Lots of flexibility and possibility in there that people have done a great job exploring through design.

My first experience with Age of Steam left me pretty cold, but every time I play it, I like it more. It’s a more flexible system than I thought on first blush and can do some really weird stuff with the design tools it provides. Guess I gotta go to Age of Steam Con in November to see what’s what.
