I can't get past this, and I know it's not just this poster. Sorry it's been them I got stuck on this morning.

"AI is slavery and I'm a slave owner" is a deeply troubling stance.

If you believe something is slavery, friends, don't do it. Don't become a slaver.

Yes, it’s slavery. My job at this point is basically just “software-slave owner”. We’re incentivized to use them as much as possible.

My not being a slaver will do nothing to destroy the institution of slavery.

I am far less concerned with the state of my soul than with the state of the world.

back in 2003, Toril Moi wrote a surprisingly generously-minded article for the Duke grad newsletter (!), i.e. directed at a specific grad cohort & institution, about the figure of the "theory boy," which has also always, for me, described the idiots of jacobin torilmoi.com/wp-content/u...
The situation I want to look at here is the graduate classroom, the kind of seminar that most of us in the humanities
engage in every week. (I shall discuss gender. But similar mechanisms can—and will—produce classrooms divided by race, sexuality or social class.) Every year some female graduate students
tell me that they feel overlooked, marginalized, silenced in
some seminars. They paint a picture of classrooms where the
alpha males—so-called “theory boys”—are encouraged to hold
forth in impossibly obscure language, but where their own
interventions elicit no response. These women, in short, say
that they are not listened to, that they are not taken seriously,
and that they get the impression that their perceptions of the
matter at hand are of no interest to anyone else.Such experiences tend to reproduce a particularly clichéd
ideology in which theory and abstract thought are thought to
belong to men and masculinity, and women are imagined to be
the bearers of emotional, personal, practical concerns. In
a system that grants far more symbolic capital, far more intellectual power, to abstract theorizing than to, say, concrete investigations of particular cases, these women lose out in the battle
for symbolic capital. This is bad for their relationship to the
field they love, and it is bad for their careers in and out of graduate school. This is sexism, and all this goes to show that sexist
effects often arise from the interactions of people who have no
sexist intentions at all.

What I take offense with is the annoying combination of denying superculture while incessantly engaging in culture war discourse and blaming everything on imagined "PMC liberal virtue hoarders" in the name of equally imagined "white working-class values". It's just Fox News with red varnish on top.

Er müsse sie mal sprechen, sagt der Kanzler,
wie sich Teilnehmer erinnern. Doch anders als die Ministerpräsidenten will Merz nicht
gratulieren. Er will abrechnen. Sie habe zwar
»Die Frau gegen Blau« auf ihre Plakate

»Sie haben die demokratische Mitte zerstört«, wird er zitiert.

soll sie Merz entgegengehalten haben. Wenn

Cover of Content Machines: Reading and Writing in the Platform Era by Sarah Brouillette. The cover is white with a tablet featuring six colorful digitally drawn images of romance book covers. There are blue thumbs ups and red hearts covering the images. Beneath is written, “Reading and Writing in the Platform Era” in bold. Below this, in lighter text, a summary of Content Machines begins. The title is written vertically in the bottom right parallel to the tablet. The author’s name is directly after in a smaller serif font.

ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.
