Especially with LLMs, which rewards lines of code as if they held the value in software, we must strive to remove code. Dead code that cannot be called, redundant code that can be abstracted and not juste duplicated… Scrap the leftovers and residues, in order to have a better foundation.

Great point — I said the Black Mage can be promoted to a Ninja. I was wrong, and you’re right to call me out on that. The Black Mage can be promoted to a Red Wizard.

Watching a demo of how you can turn every NPC in your RPG town into somebody who says "That's right — you *are* the four LIGHT WARRIORS. You make a great point! The bridge to the main continent *does* need to be repaired, and you're just the person to do it."

How badly do you have to screw up search to not be able to search for an open source project and get, you know, the actual home page, repository, or documentation for that project at least somewhere in the first page of results? This is not hard...

How can you make sure that your USB SSD backup is intact after messing with hardware settings? Well, if you do ZFS backups, then you just plug the drive into the fastest port and scrub all that 4 TB of data in 1.5 hours.

Why we need to tax the super rich more. Their wealth is growing MUCH faster than everyone else's. And they're using it to outbid you for real resources: housing, assets, healthcare, education and everything else of real value.

It was never about the art, it was always about control. I worked in advertising bringing in clients for years, and most of the times the client wants to feel "in control", as if they had some say in it. With AI, they can pretend like they did the whole thing

Every facet of generative AI has made my professional life worse, without question, but THIS specific aspect has been driving me NUTS. Clients, who have made me toil for weeks over indescribably small details, are now approving & producing in-house commercial artwork that looks like a fever dream.

We need to tax wealth not work. Why? Because usually no matter how hard you work, the compound interest on huge wealth grows much faster than your wages + the rich use this passive income to buy all the assets. Someone made a game to show this: therichdont.work

It's another double win. If you install solar panels on land sheep are currently grazing, not only can the sheep continue to graze there, they're actually *happier* (because of the shade and more diverse vegetation), and they produce more wool. Hmm, is that actually a triple win?

Low interest rates after 2008 failed to achieve any real growth or increase in living standards in the UK. If we stopped obsessing over rates, we might see how the resources are distributed – and how it's this that's holding our economy back, not monetary policy.
