Relatedly, how about a statement of outrage regarding what the Trump admin is doing to your colleague, Ilhan Omar?

Can we have more political ads like this?

I would like to see an explicit response to the targeting of Ilhan Omar by this administration and a strong defense of her by all Dems.

We’re living through a campaign of discrimination comparable to many historical abuses. It’s shocking to me how many people are capable of identifying state-sanctioned bigotry when they encounter it in a history book, but cannot recognize it at all when they encounter it in a newspaper.

Not to mention almost entirely cutting the connection to San Diego transit. Just so, so dumb. I5, here I come, I guess.

So it looks like they're cutting service to Oceanside entirely?

Beth @lpdreams.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I hear you--I'm in O'side and it was 96 inside yesterday. Brutal.

Beth @lpdreams.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
It is a lot more expensive than Metrolink. The rail-to-rail is nice, but only works if you buy a month pass, which doesn't always make sense with my schedule, and also Amtrak doesn't make as many stops so there's a lot less flexibility. Plus there's no Amtrak from Oside in the 6am hour.

Beth @lpdreams.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The cuts to trains going to Oceanside has been brutal for all of us. I'm driving half the time now because leaving at 5:18 am and getting home at 6:45 pm (assuming an on-time situation which is a big if) is just not doable every day.

A middle schooler doing a wheelie on his e-moto killed an elderly substitute teacher crossing the street in front of our school last year--yes, I that's an exception, not a rule, but he sure learned the hard way and he and his mom are facing serious charges. So I'm not quite as sanguine about this.

I'm still sometimes shocked at how AP World went from an imperfect but rigorous model of university level approaches to the field that got a lot of kids into history to boring and simplistic history-lite in a mere 8 years.

Everyone should read this.

Beth @lpdreams.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Sure, but it would be odd if those kids were running around to different schools to take all their tests. Possible, I suppose.
110
Beth @lpdreams.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Yeah, sadly I teach AP so I know; I just assumed the poster was talking about the audit which implies some degree of human organization of the course, and (I think?) you have to have a valid audit in place to administer a particular test at your site.
010
Beth @lpdreams.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Are the "teachers" even being accredited? The available test prep/AP Classroom stuff means increasing numbers of students are taking the tests as "self-study" without taking a class. They might need to just allow the school to administer.

And young teachers can't understand how we actually used to have time to prepare cool lessons that had a lot of intellectual heft and depth because we were not micromanaged with ridiculous numbers of data tasks and technology requirements.

Wild. I'm a high school history teacher on the west coast and I had the TV on in class all day; it was the 4th day of school. We watched the towers fall together. I remember crying and telling the kids that this was going to change everything.

Extremely sorry to have just discovered her work via your post on the day she deactivated her account. I teach AP World History and AP Research and I am almost completely disillusioned with AP at this point. I ordered her book, but def hoping she comes back here after a mental health break.

College Board is a blight. I teach AP World, and in the last 10 years they’ve dumbed the course and the test down to something almost unrecognizable by comparison to its origins. Universities should stop accepting the credits, imo.

I also find it depressing. There's so much vocab, etc. I learned from reading older books when I was a kid. I skimmed over the e-version of some Lois Duncan books from the 70s recently, and the publisher had added in cell phones and other stuff and it just read very off in context of the whole book

I'm a teacher, in a union, and the amount of work the union does in keeping me less underpaid and less overworked than the district would like is immense. As evidenced by the fact that we still have over 95% membership even in the wake of Janus. I feel very well served by my union.

The John Roberts Court has done more to reduce the political power of poor people and Black people while enlarging the voting rights of rich people and corporations than has any court since Roger Taney was Chief Justice in the 1800s. I opposed his nomination in 2005, and I stand by that.

Moving forward the Supreme Court has basically made only one viable redistricting reform pathway forward: change the process to independent commissions. Any criteria-based gerrymandering restrictions can be rationalized away to the god of partisan gerrymandering

notice the casual conflation of “free speech” and “no big deal” as if these are not categorically different claims; the contempt for his colleagues; and the inability to distinguish interrupting class out of retaliatory spite from the protest of an address by a public official
David Bernstein v
@ProfDBernstein Every time a leftist professor defends
students disrupting an event on campus as "free speech" or "no big deal," there should be an action squad that shows up to that professor's next class and disrupts it in similar
fashion.
