I think an under-analyzed facet to "longing for the past" is that ya know how it turned out. Things were ALSO bad then, but obv you survived it. It's easy to see the racism, classism, etc. in a Boomer longing for the 50s but I think for a lot of GenX and younger, it's "I lived, in my shitty apt."

Tim Curry’s memoir VAGABOND came out less than a year ago. I listened to the audiobook during some long drives. Really delightful. He reads it himself, and it’s post-stroke so his voice is relatively slow and deliberate. But still witty, droll and (oddly?) upbeat about life. RIP to a true great one!
