This is correct advice, but i feel we’re kind of rediscovering why the web has become what it had from first principles in this thread. 1) most authors were not learning HTML and CSS in the heyday of blogs, and now we ask them to also learn the 20 years of additional material to learn since then.

Riichi + ippatsumo in the next turn. This over and over again, because the game is literally rigged against you so that you don’t finish in the time an old-school rental used to take. Why anyone would want to play Unreal Mahjong, both the modern or the classic variety, is beyond me.

What you lose when you only play online with random people is the sense that whatever happening is happening to other people too. Mahjong in person is the best way to play, and I hope I’ll be doing it in my old age. Online is great for practice, but it’s closer to an esport in how it makes you feel.

IRL mahjong is the best way to play it bar none. If you like mahjong it’s a great favour you do to yourself if you look for a group to play it in person. Also if you happen to be the only one in your environment, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and offer to teach people! We root for you!

Yesterday at the Irish Riichi Championship was a day where I was never in the lead at any point and I was never last at any point. The result was a string of tight games and a death of thousand cuts by means of relatively good third places in all the 5 hanchan. Today I intend to change that.

I’ve written four translations this year, and I can say that the LLM I use has helped me a lot… as a rubber duck / research tool. Whatever it spits out is okay for your own consumption, but it’s criminal to pass its shite as your own because you write better. Readers want your words, not Claude’s.
