My middle child was using chat gpt yesterday, on an account the SCHOOL helped him set up, to do revision. Now I have to argue about dangers of LLM while the teachers extol the virtues of a tech they don’t understand and only use as it makes them feel smart with tech for once. I’m so angry.

What happens to people who aren't diagnosed is that they struggle horrifically as kids in various ways, develop all kinds of unhealthy coping strategies, and burn out as adults. And that's the -best- case scenario. Self-harm, depression, suicide, are the other things that can happen.

Yes, the stigma for people who are diagnosed is real but you can't solve that by not diagnosing people. Those people still have ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, etc. They need support. The more open we are about diagnosis & directly combat stigma, the more accepting people are.

There seems to be this weird idea in a lot of NT people's concept of neurodivergence that if you don't diagnose it, it doesn't exist. That is not how literally any aspect of reality works. Under diagnosing ADHD or Autism or Dyslexia etc won't make life any easier for the people with them.
