It would really be great if folks not affiliated with the Trump Administration could stop using "Department of War." The Department of Defense is a statutory creation, and the name is statutorily given--the administration cannot unilaterally change it.

Out of law school I worked for a lawyer who HATED Eric Deters. I remember one of my jobs was reviewing Facebook pics where Deters dressed up as the Dixie HS student who slept with Deters' client who was also a Ben Gal.

Tesla is browbeating the EU to approve its ‘Full Self-Driving’ tech. The pressure is working.
Elon Musk’s EV company is running a social-media campaign blaming European traffic deaths on red tape. Its safety claims don’t hold up, experts say, but regulators are starting to buckle.

Trump historically wore Brioni, an Italian luxury company that makes suits in Italy. Here he flashes a Jos. A Bank label, a US company that long offshored its production to China and Bangladesh. They carry an associated label called Joseph Abboud, which is made in US. Curious he didn't choose that.
Donald Trump in a navy suit. He's opening the jacket, so you can see the label. A close up of the suit label says Jos. A. Bank.

Our last water heater replacement was $1200 and that included the water heater, installation, and hauling the old one off. $9k is just robbery. We do have one of those companies in my area - very slick vans and marketing but they scaremonger and then estimate 2-3x what is reasonable.

A product that doesn't do what's advertised is not much different from one that doesn't exist. She had the charisma and skill to sell VC on a fake product. It's easy to build a big organization when people hand you millions of dollars and you don't have to spend that on the product.

So @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com is right. You can say we have bad elites. It’s more important to reinvigorate our society by creating new paths to the top, expanding the seats that exist at the old institutions like HYPS, & rethinking what values we extol. www.liberalcurrents.com/editors-note...
But they were never powerless. They chose the highly competitive, elite track, with all of its neuroses: its backbreaking focus on the highest achievement possible from the youngest age, and its ideological fads pushed chiefly via peer pressure rather than actual concrete power. Packer and his wife did this to themselves, and to their kids. No one else did it to them.
Is it any surprise that a cohort of people like this folded at the first sign that the wind was blowing in Trump's sails?
These people are taught from, apparently, the time they are two years old to do nothing but follow the exacting and shifting standards of their little, narrow world. Move the standards by which that world judges itself, and you will move the people within it without fail.
In this dark hour of our history, there are people and groups that have risen to the occasion. Ordinary people from Minneapolis to grand juries to Disney+ subscribers have shown that they have far more spine, far more of a moral compass, than the people who were supposed to lead them. District court judges, on the whole, have shown themselves far more committed to the rule of law
than the Supreme Court justices who govern them.
