In July, EVs accounted for over 50% of all cars sold worldwide. But they were less than 6% of sales in the US. This is not because “Americans hate EVs.” It’s because Trump’s tariffs have blocked dozens of models—not just from China—out of the US market. …

Ronald Reagan came to political prominence in CA with his opposition the Rumford Open Housing Act--"If an individual wants to discriminate against Negroes...it is his right to do so,"--opposed the Voting Rights Act, and called the Civil Rights Act "a bad piece of legislation."
"Reagan Walks out of Meet with Negroes"
Reagan said he agreed with the goals of the Civil Rights Act but said it "was a bad piece of legislation" and that he would not have voted for it had he been in Congress.

It's five years later and for me it's hard to feel like anything has changed. Everyone in power remains deeply comfortable, and they have gathered and enabled a circle of media that feeds that comfort. There is a closed feedback loop for them. And so I don't know how it ever changes.

This El Niño has a unique flavor — sea surface temperatures are most anomalously warm in the far eastern equatorial Pacific. That shifts the location of tropical thunderstorms, which influences the jet stream over the U.S. The most recent east Pacific-based El Niño "smacked" California. My latest:

This new El Niño looks like past ones that soaked California — here’s the key detail
The potentially record El Niño developing in the Pacific shares an important geographic feature with two prior very strong El Niños that drenched California.

Not sure how achievable this is but I truly love "There is nothing in the middle of the road but yellow lines and dead armadillos."
post from @stuartpstevens

When Democrats take the House, they must understand they are not a governing party. They are a dissident movement.

Act like it.

First day:

- cut off all funding of Exec. Branch

- vote to nationalize Starlink and SpaceX

- defund ICE

That's the first day.

On the second, get more aggressive.

There is nothing in the middle of the road but yellow lines and dead armadillos.

It’ll have to be done, even for non-ideological reasons. Whenever someone threatens to do something like this in the first instance, the warning is that when the other party takes control, they’ll do it right back. If that second party declines to do it right back, that check is useless forever.
