It's legitimate for the EU, the UK, Canada and others to support their Ukrainian ally. If Musk is going to (in effect) assist Putin's invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine's allies should sanction Starlink, X and Tesla. At the very least, governments (and people) should stop using his fucking site already.

It's been many years since I first understood this: The concept of linear time makes so much more sense when you actually get enough sleep. Asking coworkers how THEY handle the constant jolting awake and not knowing what year it is, or how they time-travelled to there, is a sign you need a union.

Speaking out about this is the BARE MINIMUM If defending #MarkCarney is more important than defending trans kids in #Alberta, than you are not an ally. You are what conservatives call you - virtue signalling frauds. Trans kids are literally unaliving themselves in Alberta.

Why Arturo Béjar left Meta – and blew the whistle: ‘I don’t recall Mark ever being empathetic’
Béjar’s daughter was 14 when she told him Instagram was failing to keep her safe. So when he became part of Meta’s ‘wellbeing team’, he knew he had to speak out – and his testimony cost it billions

Thank you, friend. The job market is extra bleak when one's ten+ years of experience come from an adjacent field. Time for another expensive piece of paper. There is, of course, a danger of becoming perfect. I'm willing to take that chance, though.

I have only a couple of maquettes left in my possession, from my previous career as a production designer, and I recently gave this little one a new spot on some new shelving. Related: I finally found the perfect place to put the cicada exoskeleton I had been saving since the summer.
A half-inch scale model of a set design for a play that was produced almost twenty years ago in Toronto. It is hand-built and hand-painted. The design elements include: a weathered hardwood floor with an irregular jagged edge, as if it has been smashed away. Under the floor boards, we can see pages from diaries, books, and magazines, as if they have been hidden away and then discovered like a time capsule. The back wall is partial, and suggests the small bay window of a terrace house on one side, and a cramped stairwell on the other side, as if the house has been broken into even smaller units. There are large packing boxes, a half-moon table, a stained mid-century settee, and at downstage centre, there is a cicada exoskeleton sitting backwards on a wooden kitchen chair, like a youth pastor.

Ten years later, this was the second-to-last invasive plant that came with the property that I had yet to remove. Tomorrow morning, my favourite local arborist is coming over to take a look at the enormous Wintercreeper that envelops the NE side of the house. This week feels momentous.

Pulled out the last of the (invasive) Vinca tonight. I'll put down good soil and get roots in the ground tomorrow. In the month it took me to get through this sidewalk-adjacent patch, I endured smarmy canvassers, weird randos, and tonight: a neighbour's adult kid crashing ALL the way out.
An area of about 8m² that used to be Vinca (Periwinkle) and is now bare soil. Not pictured is a fifty-year-old woman with a hernia who is very aware that she didn't plant the Vinca in the first place, and who needs to lie down and have a cocktail.
