Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Abandoned, dismissed and gaslighted: there is no excuse for the way ME sufferers have been betrayed | George Monbiot
Changes in guidance and science seem to have little impact on millions of devastated lives. It’s a social crisis playing out behind closed doors, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Today marks 25 years since 9/11. 8 months after the attack, psychiatrist Simon Wessely argued that illness reported around Ground Zero was being wrongly attributed to environmental toxins, suggesting “World Trade Centre Syndrome” was driven by social and psychological factors.

A fish is a teacher, wearing a button-up shirt with a collar. He says "Volunteer to speak with classrooms in front of a chalkboard that says "Skype a scientist needs YOU!". What a great article not only on faculty workloads, but how little our salaries actually factor in to most university budgets. A few highlights. First, our salaries are falling:
Third, faculty salaries are falling even if we statistically control for faculty rank and institution. By our analysis of National Center for Education Statistics data, tenured and tenure-track salaries are down 10 percent in real terms since 2016 and are lower today than they were in 2002; nontenured faculty salaries are down 4 percent since 2016 and are at 2002 levels today.

To put this plainly: Suppose sharply increased teaching loads enabled institutions to cut one out of every seven full-time faculty. (That’s roughly what we saw last year in severe cuts announced at West Virginia, Western Illinois, and St. Cloud State Universities.) The associated savings in salary and benefits even through such drastic action would amount to less than 2.5 percent of total institutional expenditures for the typical university.

The upshot? If you think higher education has a cost problem, squeezing more teaching out of faculty is not the first place you should look.

I haven't done an Infinity NIkki post in a while so here's one of the outfits I've been enjoying using a lot lately! Meet Prince Nikki and Duke Momo!! ✨️
A shot from behind Nikki. Ahead is a palace corridor with columns on either side, european style brick walls and tile floor. She is sat on a red plush throne and has shoulder length brown hair, golden eyes, a tiara and a red and gold prince outfit with lacy white ribbon coming from a brooch at her back and a shoulder cape. Nikki is wearing the red and gold prince outfit, but here is looking at a butterfly on her finger. Frilly white lace sleeves and pearl bracelets can be seen at this angle. She is surrounded by translucent white columns with a blossoming tree between them. Nikki is sitting in a tall-backed chair while wearing the red and gold prince outfit. In a closeup of her face and hands she is holding a tarot-looking card with a woman holding a mirror on it.Nikki is sitting on a flower shaped chair and holding a flower bouquet while wearing the red and gold prince outfit. She looks into the distance as Momo does ballet in the foreground. Momo looks into the camera knowingly. He is wearing a fancy butler-looking outfit with musical motifs and his cat ears have little stripes in them.
