Have you ever heard of menuki? These beautiful objects are an example of a pair from the Ashmolean’s collection. Menuki are sword-grip ornaments on Japanese swords and daggers, they come in pairs and are placed asymmetrically on either side of the handle.

Made in early 17th century England, this lady’s cap features a beautifully detailed botanical design. The scrolling gold-work design forms compartments containing strawberries, honeysuckle, cowslips, a foxglove-like flower and the distinctive spiked blue borage flower.

(1/8) Who is Deal Man? Deal Man is an Iron Age carved chalk figurine on display at Dover Museum. He was discovered in 1984 during excavations by the #Dover Archaeological Group ahead of construction work on a site adjacent to St Richards Road in, #Deal.
Deal Man is a small Iron Age carved chalk figurine with a simple face features, a long slender neck, and a plain rectangular body. The figurine's base slopes backwards so that it will not stand up on a flat surface.

We really need to discuss making ourselves less (or non-) reliant on these products. Same goes for online catalogs for libraries. If our entire operation is reliant on a private piece of software that could go down at any moment... well, we can't really have serious conversations about resilience.
