Across the political divide do WM govts specifically look for people who know nothing about NI and are tone death to its history to hold the position of SoS? Because they’re amazingly consistent if they aren’t trying.

So awful to hear of the passing of Dr Rena Maguire today. A huge loss, and gone far too soon. She had a unique understanding of prehistory as intimately tethered to cultural history. I will miss that insight. Rest in peace.

In recent weeks it became increasingly clear that Jason Arday was probably vulnerable, with multiple personal issues. That didn't deter some media outlets from continuing to hound him, even after he resigned. Police say his death "is not believed to be suspicious". Not true! May God grant him rest.

The problem can be summed up with one question: how many people who can name Jason Arday can name the plagiarising professor at the same institution who is still in post? How many people can name the VC criticised by name in an employment tribunal this week?
