Working in tech but more likely to post about football or music. I wash bibs and pick up cones for Shelbourne FC's women's team. Kevin Godley once described me as a "visionary boffin".

They'll label Sally Rooney as a terrorist but the types of people the who led arson attacks on hotels or blocked, attacked or doxed the RNLI are people with legitimate concerns who must be listened to.

Israel is carrying out genocide in #Palestine & Europe still rewards it with a €45 billion trade agreement. The EU must scrap it and hit Israel where it counts. The more voices we have, the harder we are to ignore. ✍️ Go to aodhan.ie/act to sign our petition and show that Dublin stands with 🇵🇸.

These days, I often find myself having to think hard about which party a given minister belongs to. Sometimes I have to look it up. Fintan has hit the nail on the head, as have you with your "I just work here" quip. Spot on.

Great piece by Fintan O’Toole. I think it captures what a lot of people are feeling about Ireland’s sort of don’t-ask-me-I-just-work-here government.

This chap, a man without an original thought, an AI robot from the FF factory, has just provoked the biggest public sector strike in donkey’s years. The country will be shut down for two days of the next ten. Pat Leahy and the Irish Times have decided now is the time to publish a paean to him.

Interesting piece by Gavin Cooney about reporting on the Ireland V Israel fixtures.

Ireland v Israel was no ordinary match assignment. Irish journalists were watched and filmed
Recurring presence of out-of-place people combined with blatant filming of reporters made for a deeply uncomfortable week

The Sunday Independent published an article written by Brenda Power which breached the Press Council Code of Practice against Prejudice and was "likely to cause grave offence or to stir up hatred against trans and gender diverse people on the basis of their gender."

This is written to fly under the radar, from today’s Sunday Independent (Ireland). The press council upheld a complaint about an offensive and transphobic opinion column by Brenda Power. Sindo was required to publish the decision. @mams4transrights.bsky.social @jesalady.bsky.social
A half page article from the Sunday independent with the headline OMB2590 A woman and the Sunday independent.
The article outlines the complaint, the appeal and the decision.
The complaint relates to an opinion column deploring the fact that an unnamed td provided a character reference for a man convicted of sexual violence against children. A sentence in the column argued that this case threw light on the possibility that a man would “identify as a woman” in order to commit sexual violence.
The press council concluded that “a reference to a protected group [trans people] in this context should have been extremely carefully scrutinised”. It found that the Sunday independent was in violation of principle 8 of the press council code of practice.

This will never stop blowing my mind. A 12-year sequence of real telescope images of a star 133 lightyears away. And around it, four planets slowly orbiting. Four real exoplanets, each more massive than Jupiter, imaged as they move around their host star.

Only 6% of voters said immigration was a primary concern at the last election. The issues voters actually cared about were housing (28%), cost of living (19%), and healthcare (17%). All areas where this government are failing horrifically. The anti-immigration narratives are a distraction #Spéirgorm

Housing was the number one issue for voters yesterday (according to the exit poll, at least)
28% of those polled said it was the main factor in why they voted.

Teenage Wasteland on Netflix was not quite what I thought it was going to be. As well as the environmental issues at the core, it's a wonderful story of adults empowering teenagers to question people in power. I never imagined I'd be shedding a tear at the end when I saw down to watch it.
