It's been a busy week so far, and it's only going to get busier. We're introducing a motion to tax energy companies' windfall profits, and a bill that aims to guarantee a right to housing. To boot, we're launching our Alternative Budget on Thursday. Stay tuned to our socials to keep up to date.

We've heard racist chants. We've heard chants for the IDF. Their football captain has spoken out in support of their soldiers. Yet we are told to keep politics out of football. We are calling for the resignation of FAI senior management for the debacle that has been the past 72 hours.

Children with special needs, their parents and schools are continually being failed by the Government. Cupboards and converted toilets are ridiculously unacceptable places to use as spaces for children with additional needs. Will the Taoiseach not take responsibility?

The ongoing situation around Gazan student visas is an embarrassment. One government department has offered these students scholarships, but another won't approve their visas. The Minister for Justice and the Minister for Foreign Affairs must communicate, and resolve this fiasco.

Last night's expose on Virgin Media should serve as a catalyst for this Government to sort out inclusive education in Ireland. We are seeing completely inappropriate spaces being used for children with special needs in schools. Parents should not have to fight and fight on and on anymore.

The ESRI has reported that in 2024, there were 200,000 children in poverty. It's an absolutely scandalous number. What are the government actually going to do in Budget 2027 to ensure that we see this level of inequality drop?

The work of Repeal is not finished. Here in Clare, women are still writing to male government TDs to ask for their rights to be respected. On the vote to remove the 3-day wait, 2/3 of government TDs voted against trusting women (Joe Cooney and Cathal Crowe). Email shared with permission #Spéirgorm
An email sent by a Clare woman to Joe Cooney:
It reads
"Deputy Cooney,

Please support the bill on the removal of the 3 day wait period.
It is deeply embarrassing to me that I should have to share my medical needs with a man I don't know in order to justify the need to access safe, timely, care in my home country.

I'm sure you're no more comfortable hearing about my reproductive healthcare than I am in sharing it. This is not a decision I would make lightly. If I ever do need to make it I can assure you I will have given it due consideration, in consultation with my doctor.

Please for my sake, and the sake of women across Clare, do away with this patronizing provision.

Thank you,"

Turning off social media algorithms for users by default is a key way we can tackle the spread of harmful content. It was originally in Coimisiún na Meáin's online safety code, and it makes perfect sense. The government are once again dragging their heels. We need to see action.

Despite all Gov's commitments and promises, disabled people and their families continue to be failed. Every day they must battle with a State that's supposed to be there to help them, just to get the bare minimum. Every child has a right to an education. Gov is failing to deliver on their rights.

The announcement of US sanctions on the International Criminal Court are deeply frustrating. We need to see the EU blocking mechanism – which would prevent these sanctions from affecting individuals – come into place. Ireland holds the EU Presidency – now is the perfect time to lead on this.

Recent disclosures made by Garda whistleblowers are appalling, and have come at a huge personal cost to the brave members who came forward. We need the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan – and his predecessor, Minister Helen McEntee – to come before the Dáil this week to answer questions.

In June, students interviewed for posts and were offered jobs in named clinical areas in CUH. In September, the HSE tried to row back on this decision in shoddy terms. It is not appropriate for newly qualified student nurses who want to expand their skills and practice to be put on the bank.
