One of my husband’s aunts is the world’s biggest Eric Burdon fan. I’m betting she’s heard this but I have not!

For day three of this endeavour, a song that features heavily in my collection: June Carter and Merle Kilgore's "Love's Ring of Fire". For the record, Johnny's version is *also* a cover. Here's the Eric Burdon Band, with a cover very different from the Animals' cover. #CoverSong #JohnnyCash

When I was in school, one of my male friends invited me over to watch a movie. I got super tired while I was there & ended up falling asleep on his futon. I woke up surprised to find a blanket on me & him sitting on the floor so that I could be comfortable. This is what is supposed to happen.

Okay so Moppet story from tonight. To understand it, you need to be familiar with Mr. Yuk, the poison control sticker designed to warn small children away from tasting household chemicals. I loved putting everything in my mouth as a child so these were plentiful in my house growing up.

A neon green face with its tongue sticking out that says “POISON HELP!” And has the number 1-800-222-1272

Yes! Same one I saw! I thought they did a great job of having a guy who could sing bowie material as written without sounding like he was doing a Bowie impression. Hard way to balance things.

They claim their label made them Cover Slade and that they tried to botch it but instead their cover of Cum On Feel the Noize made Quiet Riot the first metal band to reach number one. I do not believe their claim the label forced them. They freaking sounded like them already.

010

to your question of why they aren’t better known— they are huge in the UK but never here. However I’d argue that every single American who bought a Slade album moved to LA, got some aquanet and formed a pop metal band in 1980. Huge musical influence on all the hair metal bands. Including*

Aww yay! That song is so good that even I love it and I usually dislike Christmas music. So that really says something! My main Slade tip is that their best album is Slayed? thou they do have many great songs all thru the era. And lots of fun Brittish tv appearances some live some mimed.

Gudbuy T’Jane is one of the best uses of the Road Runner riff. (Beep beep). Speaking of— I love all these 1972 kids dressed like flawlessly 50s rockers. My people (the pathologically retro) have always been here.

Absoltely! I got to see Woody play after Bowie died. Fabulous. But I was shocked that I didn’t see anybody really write about Don Powell, ever. It’s as absurd as it would be if people wrote about Duran Duran and never mentioned John Taylor. Don is crucial!

130

Seriously Don Powell! I do not profess expertise on percussion but it’s as tho there’s not even a smidgen of swing to it and it’s perfect?! All these drum parts are so distinctive! He just chews his gum & drums like a glam rock robot & I mean that as praise.

Slade! Slade! Slade! Don Powell fucking rules even here. “I've had a red light of the wrist without me even gettin' kissed” 🧑‍🍳💋 “I've sang the glory that was Rome, And passed the hound dog singer's home; It still seems for the best.”

i think the think about “hatewatching” the harry potter show is like. the show is just gonna be dumb and mediocre or whatever. there is no value in it. it’s not like the SHOW is going to be transphobic. talking about it will still feed the media machine around it and her.

William Peterson’s career ark is just really funny to me. He’s edgy Chicago theater guy, then sensitive brooding protagonist in acclaimed Hollywood crime films, then… it’s all CSI forever I guess?

There’s a lot of 70s rock haircuts that other people might find questionable and that I fully embrace and have even wear myself. By choice! But no one other than Dave Hill is so bold as to have the Dave Hill. I cannot even imagine how that initial conversation with a barber went.

I remember a while back someone arguing that you can’t truly make an anti-cop movie, and this movie is living proof that you absolutely can

1102

Ps I love that movie and we should talk about it. The Wang Chung soundtrack is insane! The movie is nowhere in streaming so we bought the blueray sight unseen as it was the only way to watch it and have been on a Michael Mann then Friedkin kick so it was the clear next step. Freaking perfect movie.

Oh no worries. The essay connects vax injured people (few) to long covid sufferers (many) to show how both are underserved and I haven’t seen many folks try to do that balancing act. It’s complicated. I wonder how the piece will be interpreted by less aware folks. If THEY will try to make it antivax

No worries! And frankly getting a cast done is more urgent than a routine chest squish scan. I hope.

Back in June I was told I'd have to wait 6 weeks to get a cast on my broken wrist (all the docs on vacation). I was like, won't the bone have started to knit by then? They said, yes but we'll just re-set it, not a problem. 😲 I got *extremely* assertive — but still had to wait 8 days for the cast.

I just realized that the person in this article was talking about folks who had a lasting bad reaction to the vaccine. And in that case, it is a few people and I appreciate their writing this without going antivax.

"unlucky few" According to a recent study, there may be as many as 15 million Americans suffering from some form of Long COVID. Maybe we can start with admitting its an issue and that ignoring a condition that is impacting MILLIONS of Americans? www.cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/lon...

The idea that it’s a few is batshit. We’re talking 6-10% of people from what I’m seeing. And no that’s not a majority but that sure as fuck isn’t a few
