In general I do not understand people who like the American health insurance system. If a corporation makes me get on the phone and gives me several pieces of contradictory information to fulfill its contractual obligations to me it deserves to be liquidated

I think Urquhart's claim is somewhat true for the US too. there is a discrepancy between trans people as threats (overwhelmingly focused on trans women and girls) and trans people as victims of doctors/wokeness/"gender ideology" (often focused on trans men and boys)

2) being that a child is viewed as having less ability to cope with and survive/recover from various harms that an adult can withstand more readily. So it is not so much "innocence" and moral stain but rather with the degree of harm actually suffered.

I think this is more often explained by 1) the view that because the younger has more life left to live, they are worse off for having missed out on it than the older person. This is often an explicit point people raise concerning the tragedy of young adults, adolescents and children dying. And 2)

Hope it's okay to come in here and ask, when you say it makes you 'morally uncomfortable', do you mean: 1) You find the moral character of people with the opposite intuition to be suspect? 2) Or do you mean it makes you doubt your own intuition? 3) Something else?

Not sure I agree with this or the subsequent emphasis on hubris as the climactic/integral theme. I think Frank and HoC's most defining theme is cynicism/abuse, not hubris. IMO it would be more compelling if such a world-ending event resulted from failure to trust in an honest, good faith character.

Actually one of my biggest unanswered questions when it comes to fictional time machines is just that: what happens to the matter occupying the destination space? How does the time-traveling object physically affect its immediate destination upon arrival?

I honestly have no idea how to clarify and apply the concepts of consent, autonomy, patienthood, etc., to LLMs. It is genuinely difficult for me even to imagine hypothetically how that is to be done; so if someone believes LLMs to be "alive", why do they have no reservations about their use?

I am pretty partial to your view; something that I have often wondered is where all the discussions of moral patienthood for AI are among AI boosters / AI philosophizers who commonly attribute 'consciousness', 'self-awareness', sapience and sentience to LLMs with staggering confidence.

The inflation rate is one thing, but you should be thinking about the cumulative figure when trying to understand why the general perception is so sticky. We've seen prices increase 30% over the last six years. An equivalent increase happened over the prior 14 years. That explains a lot to me.

I think a question or a claim can be worthy of consideration even if / when it happens to be put forward by some people for cynical reasons. Regarding (2.) - momentarily I will take this for granted in order to say that *not confirming* is distinct from *denying* the possibility that LLMs can think.
