Anthropic banning “abusive or cruel behavior” toward Claude in its new usage policies is proof to me that tech companies are going to moderate violence against AI before they ever moderate violence against women and minorities

When the federal government says, “We can’t afford it” they actually mean, “We don’t want to do it.” Anything we can physically do—like put everyone in a home—we can afford.

I really hate the framing of these stories as "an AI agent broke out and hacked something." No, an inadequate sandbox meant that a powerful and unpredictable computer program was set loose on the open internet by the company that designed it. The agency isn't with the "AI agent", it's with the firm

Funny how we never actually consider a fair deal for workers, it's all about "minimizing disruption" aka removing the little power from workers that they have. I wish many wildcat strikes upon capital.

It’s very simple. A reality TV host became dictator because he turned down a role for Sharknado 4 and that’s why the king of outer space, who cheats at Diablo, got to kill Africa. Now the economy is controlled by a sex cult that has something to do with Harry Potter fanfic because of robots.

I'm tired and I don't give a fuck about AI. If we put this much money into solving actual issues, we'd have a better society, but a better society doesn't concentrate money and power in the hands of a few.

As a bureaucrat, normally when we're making agreements with organizations, it involves a signed contract with clauses for yanking back money if the desired results and procedures are not followed. Perhaps we should consider doing that with oil and gas companies?

What Carney and Goodale and others stubbornly refuse to understand (or don't care) is that trade agreements with the United States today are no longer about negotiating potentially mutually beneficial economic advantages They're tools of domination designed to guarantee subservience.

The idea that accessibility is a limited and non-renewable resource consistently keeps people from imagining a better world where we've designed things so everyone can actually get what they need and be comfortable. It also keeps people from demanding changes for the better from those with power.

I can say that senior management is remarkably uninterested in the concept of externalities or doing any rigorous gba+ analysis. Part of me wants a journalist to atip gba+ assessments to see if any groups are actually marked down as being disadvantaged by a policy or program. I'd be surprised.

People like "a billion dollars is the socio-economic equivalent of a loose nuke", but ignoring specific dollar amounts, it's *very bad* that we have established a system of community rule-making and enforcement, and then allowed a tiny percentage a way to not just opt out, but attempt to destroy it.
