I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

"A lot has changed since the American Library Association was established in 1876 — even just over the past decade. The library has gone from a building full of books to arguably the most versatile civic center in any community lucky enough to have one." nyti.ms/47zF62M

these are our pianos, not theirs! I know this stuff can feel secondary with all of the immediate pain this admin causes, but in the face of such personalism, it also feels important to assert the democratic principle that these cultural inheritances don't belong to the president, they belong to us

It's not even funny what kind of loss I will absorb if I have to create an account to do business with you. I will walk away from a winning lottery ticket, I promise you.

I filled up my tank this morning at a Chevron on Highway 99 in the mid of the San Joaquin Valley. My car gets ~32 mpg on the freeway. Cannot imagine what it would cost to drive my old pickup now.
gas station pump display showing a purchase price of $83.27 for 11.897 gallons of gas. prices shown per grade of gas are as follows: 87 octane = $6.999; 89 octane = $7.199; 91 octane = $7.399; Diesel #2 = $8.999

It goes by a lot of domain specific names but yep. Breaking down tasks takes some training and intent. Most people aren’t doing this in their routine lives.

I have a yellow, banana-shaped banana slicer. I love it both for its practicality and the fact that my mother-in-law finds it ridiculous. But it wasn't her chopping up bananas every day for two toddlers!

Once again, I gotta say: you cannot treat anything you’re feeding into an AI as anonymous. There are enormous ethics implications for, e.g. referees who are clearly uploading others’ unpublished papers without consent, let alone health care professionals or law enforcement

One reason to learn about things outside your major is so that you have something to talk about with people at parties and on dates. No amount of money will make up for you being a crushing bore. History majors learn this early but I guess it takes other people longer.
