It’s our National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day is meant for reflection on the abhorrent part of our past that was the Residential Schools/ Boarding Schools that subjected kidnapped Indigenous children to a brutal regimen that was meant to “kill the Indian, save the child.”

Is it just me or are US government officials in cahoots to gaslight Canadians? Also, trade war seems appropriate. No physical violence luckily, but a war never the less. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

🧵 I'm a big fan of making it easier for parents to care for their kids, but this is *not* how to do it! What to know, with my 2 cents: 🔹️The plan "would create the only federal subsidy to pay parents to stay home and raise their children." The idea came from the... www.nytimes.com/2026/09/05/u...

Early on in COVID we were talking to a friend outside, & an ambulance siren started going off near us. We discussed the Apocalyptic Vibes of the situation And then he said "Yeah it's funny & all, right? But it's when the sirens STOP that you really gotta worry." And I mean, facts.

Micah makes the very good point that although google is showing the name change first, it is likely just because they update their data more frequently (which is part of why google maps is so popular - because it's very up to date).

I think often about how different media is in Canada and the US. It really shows up not just in how this latest lake ontario bs is front page news here, but also a one sided news cycle comes across in increasingly tone-deaf american ambassadors, trade negotiators etc.

I just finished watching North of North (which was SO sweet) and now I’m wondering what people who live in the Arctic Circle sleep during the midnight sun. I remember there being blackout curtains in the summer in Scotland, but it’s not like that’s Arctic. Do people just sleep whenever?

Okay so I saw a video about the Nanotyrannus and was talking about it with my BF. Basically as I understand it small T-Rex had been largely considered to be juvenile T-Rex but now researchers looking at some of these skeletons have posited that they're actually adults (e.g. house cats vs. Tigers)1/3

Just found out there's a petition calling for the Canadian government to request that U.S. Ambassador Hoekstra to be removed. Personally I have felt he has been pretty adversarial towards Canada for an ambassador (many 9f his comments have had my blood boiling tbh) and the requests seem reasonable.

In Ottawa the city has had massive increases in requests for power, basically requiring a doubling of the city's grid and it really hasn't been talked about enough. When it has such a profound impact on infrastructure you'd think there'd be consultations and oversights. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

One of my fave fun facts is that, once upon a time, calling something a "black swan" meant it didn't exist. Then, in 1697, Dutch mariners saw black swans in Australia. So now, a "black swan" means "something completely unanticipated, but consequential." But we already have "dark horse" in English!

It's hard to work towards goals for the benefit of humanity when BS like this could get pulled out at the highest levels. (See also the vehicle fuel efficiency, I'm not sure if I'm remembering it right but vehicles were incentivized to get 'greener' and manipulated the metrics to get bigger).

More than 100 years later, this quote by Rebecca West remains remarkably relevant. One of the most enduring definitions of feminism because it gets to the core issue: women being treated as full human beings rather than expected to be passive, compliant, or subordinate.
I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is. lonly know that people call me a feminist
Whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat.
