Just finished Muñeca by @cynthiasaysboo.bsky.social and what a delightfully feral story of dark sorcery and sapphic gothic (via the 60s) romance Recommended www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/788211...

The core problem w/ EA today is that most of the *money* in the ecosystem has pivoted from "mosquito nets are an efficient way to fight malaria and sleeping sickness" to "quadrillions of future lives depend on me becoming a trillionaire," even if most of the people are still doing the former.

In art school, I devoted a lot of focus to movements like surrealism and Fluxus, where a procedural or algorithmic process scaffolds the extremely human art-making process. It's been so disappointing to see LLMs become... not that. This essay really resonated with me.

another thing men can do more of is employ the social regulatory function of gossip. gossip is how we run scenarios together and figure out shared values! "you would not believe the shit my coworker said to me today" communicates "I find this behavior unacceptable and I believe you do too"

A good place to start with shrinking the lawn is to decide which areas to reduce first, such as slopes or stretches along heavily-traveled roads. Other options include spots where grass is growing poorly, areas where it is difficult to mow around trees, or parts of the yard hidden from public view.

Shout out to the class I'm teaching tonight for finally giving me excuse to make the "Flowers" vs "forbs" slides I've always meant to make Grasses flower! Sedges and rushes flower! When you say "flowers and grasses", you probably most accurately mean "forbs and graminoids"!
"Everyone flowers .... even lawn grass" a slide made in the style of "Everyone poops" but with sedges and grasses, especially Carex richardsonii, Bouteloua curtipendula, Sorghastrum nutans, and Poa pratensisa slide showing Graminoids (grasses, sedges and rushes) and Forbs (prairie smoke, sisyrinchium, ruellia humilis, and Polemonium reptans)

The magic in that country was so thick and tenacious that it settled over the land like chalk-dust and over floors and shelves like slightly sticky plaster-dust. (Housecleaners in that country earned unusually good wages.) If you lived in that country, you had to de-scale your kettle of its encrusta-tion of magic at least once a week, because if you didn't, you might find yourself pouring hissing snakes or pond slime into your teapot instead of water. (It didn't have to be anything scary or unpleasant, like snakes or slime, especially in a cheerful household magic tended to reflect the atmosphere of the place in which it found itself-but if you want a cup of tea, a cup of lavender-and-gold pansies or ivory thimbles is unsatisfactory. And while the pansies-put dry in a vase-would probably last a day, looking like ordinary pansies, be-fore they went greyish-dun and collapsed into magic dust, something like an ivory thimble would begin to smudge and

crumble as soon as you picked it up.) The best way to do it was to have a fairy as a member of your household, because she (it was usually a she) could lay a finger on the kettle just as it came to a boil (absentminded fairies could often be recognised by a pad of scar-tissue on the finger they favoured for kettle-cleaning) and murmur a
