The only good thing that’s gonna come out of troops invading Iran is we’ll get a second season of Generation Kill. Now with smartphones, Gen Z marines, and an even more incompetent leadership

Love the glimpse into the beautiful mind that notated this used copy of Moby Dick I got
Chapter 1 of Moby Dick, page 1

The phrase ‘Call me Ishmael’, the first sentence of the book, is highlighted in blue, with careful highlighting on the very big C at the start. Above this, written in ballpoint pen ‘His name’

I’ve gotten back into reading the Red Mars Trilogy and I think it’s a great read during these changing times. It does a great job exploring the challenges in building consensus in a new society, fighting for self determination and the boring realities of governance in a very human way #booksky

Should artists get a basic income like they do in Ireland?
Could the government pay salaries to musicians and artists - no strings attached like they do in Ireland?

Lil' comic about hope and longing 💗
comic:

when it happens I hope people ring bells and blow horns.

if I'm asleep I hope to be woken. I won't mind.

if I'm in traffic I hope to see revelers. If it causes a traffic jam I won't mind.

I don't want to exist a moment not knowing that it has happened.

it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

Took these golden boys for a spin against my mate's deathguard the other dsy using the solar spearhead detachment and they did real well. Any time custodes can get re-roll 1s they become that much more effective. I'd love to run the Telemon sometime with the duel fists! #custodes #warhammer #40k
An army of gold and purple custodes warhammer miniatues includin 3 dreadnoughts, a hover tank, a squad of custodian guard with melta-spears and a squad with shields and a vexilla

This is perfect. The DOJ's embarrassing snafu with disappearing redactions was the fault of Elon Musk. Musk cancelled government subscriptions to Adobe programs that would have made the redactions permanent. What a pack of fools.

The fair work commission can't even dispute AI rosterimg decisions because our legal system has no recourse when a decision wasn't made by a human so there's no one you can take to court!

It's been a while since one paragraph made me this mad. It's deeply embaressing to think our current legal framework and a $30 million group inside a department is enough to regulate something as unprescidented as AI.

A quick note about money and comedy and power. www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/st...
On a more serious note, Collins thinks the Riyadh lineup reflects something dire about both American politics and the bifurcated woke-versus-anti-woke comedy scene. Collins says there’s “a lot of money” behind enticing anti-woke comics to shill for the political project on the right. “I also like money, but I think getting hundreds of thousands of dollars to tell jokes for 10 minutes about ‘airline food is bad’ is actually illustrative of a much larger thing: The stuff that’s getting greenlit is not necessarily popular with the populace. It’s popular with rich people who are sick of being yelled at in the media. They are using some of these people as vehicles for whatever the comedy equivalent of greenwashing is.”

I was really confused why people kept saying we need to deter refugees because crossing the ocean was dangerous (unknown to me, this was not their actual motivation) so mine was: we should send boats out a boat to collect the refugees so they're safe
