Next Koboa clss is the Rhythmatist. The story of this class is a combat-oriented character that has a mystical connection to something called "The First Rhythm". This is a magical phenomenon of Koboa that connects all things when they are in harmony, which the Rhythmatist seeks to enhance.

Training zer stance on the tropical beach, the raug combat
dancer senses a strange shift in the rhythm of the tides. The
way the wind moves the sand is making an unexpected beat.
The rhythmatist realizes something is different about today,
and ze must change zer plans accordingly.
The sial and his chanov ally move in tandem towards the elf
blocking their passage ahead. They move to opposite sides
of the elf, keeping them off balance. The sial’s connection to
the patterns and rhythms around him guides his ally’s move-
ments, each swing of their blades synchronized perfectly.
A kadwot lunges through the air at the corrupted goong. She
pokes the eye, causing the monster to drop its defense as it
cries in pain. She reaches a hand out and seems to grip the
air itself, somehow turning herself around mid-jump before
landing safely out of reach, ten feet away from the monster.
She spins on the ground, adding a flourish at the end, a
gloating grin on her face as the monster stumbles back.
Rhythmatists hear a song that permeates all of the material
world. They call this the First Rhythm, and they understand
the way it connects and links people, creatures, and places in
ways that other people may never understand. Their under-
standing of the First Rhythm allows them to interact with the
world around them in ways that, while sometimes seeming
erratic to others, make perfect sense to the rhythmatist. Their
connection to the Rhythm makes them mobile strikers, dis-
rupting the Rhythm of their opponents to help maximize the
combat efficiency of the rest of their adventuring party.
The First Rhythm
A rhythmatist will tell you that all creation is connected in a
single song. The rising and setting of the sun, the breathing
of a lizard, the winds up in the mountain: you’ll find they
all follow the Rhythm of the World, if you take the time to
study and understand it. This song is called the First Rhythm,
and it is the source of a rhythmatist’s power. They start their

That said, I think that's not an issue of the responders on the scene. Frankly, I think this is how a 60 something white woman near the Shrewsbury line gets treated in the middle of the night on a Tuesday. "Ok grandma, let's get you home" is the whole vibe. Love this subclass too. I feel like a lot of combat in 5e is very static and this class seeks to change that by encouraging a lot more movement. It proved a lot of fun in our playtesting and games that we've played with it.

I have to deal with one of these in my current campaign. He's the MVP of every combat. Twice in a row he disabled 3+ strong enemies with Hypnotic Pattern. He's also a small Kadwot that rides a Capybara, so I can't get mad at him. 😅

Its been a controversial class with our backers (a lot *love* it and a lot *hate* it) and by far the most talked about class from Koboa. I personally totally love the way this random spellcaster works and think its one of the coolest most interesting and bold designs we bring with Koboa.

This class is for people that like big highs and big lows. Sometimes you'll hilariously get a terrible spell for the situation, and sometimes you'll be casting a spell you shouldn't have access to for several levels. Its a ton of fun.

First subclass is the Bakenllé. This is the weapons + spellcasting subclass that has some martial capabilities. The fun thing about this one is you get some combat magic dice that start as a d2 and get stronger as you do martial things. Bank them long enough and you can cast massive spells

Leveling up on the class gives you tools to control what you get. At first, you start being able to lessen the effect of your spell, if you for some reason want to use something lower than what you rolled. Eventually you start getting points you can spend to increase results when you need that oomph

Mechanically, you're spending your spell slots to cast a spell that is sometimes 1-2 levels lower than it should be, sometimes at the right level, and sometimes a level higher than you should be able to achieve. I find this style of play incredibly fun.

The form of the watak is a hybrid of flora and fauna. Those that take this form manifest one part of the body of a beast, usually the leg, arm, or tail.

On to classes! The first of the two new classes in Koboa is the bruje, a spellcaster class. The bruje tells the story of a character connecting to an old lost art. It's inspired by pain of what was lost to colonialism, the practices and cultures destroyed by invaders. And of course, brujería.

The watak follows hand motions passed down to her by
her mother and her mother’s mother. When she was
younger she usually drew forth an acid arrow doing these
motions, but today she does something different and feels
a crackle of electricity surging through her. She moves her
arm, no longer pointing at the anillere in front of her but
at the throng of siervos to her left, and unleashes a mighty
bolt of electricity through them all. As the smoke clears
she tries to visualize her hand motions to reproduce this
magic next time.
The etel uses a burst of the encanto magic surging through
his body to dodge under a serpent’s massive tail with
supernatural speed. He blasts the serpent with bolts of fire
as his teammates keep it busy, building up magical ener-
gies with every wound inflicted on his enemy. Unleashing
the magic in a single blast, the etel casts a spell far beyond
what his magic can usually reach, imposing horrendous
visions on the serpent and all of its servants.
In a quiet moment, the chanov goes over everything
they’ve learned in the past month about the old ways.
Their excursion to the ruins resulted in much knowledge,
and the chanov thinks they have gained enough under-
standing to push the limit on what their encanto magic
can do. The chanov concentrates, setting up a divination
ritual, and attempts to push their sight far enough to find
the missing pieces of their Map.
In the old days of Koboa, before the Invasion and the Oc-
cupation, Koboan magical practices took on many shapes,
some entirely different from magical traditions in other
continents. Many of these forms of magic were actively
opposed and oppressed by the Larensian colonizers, who
did everything they could to try to erase them. Many mas-
ter practitioners were executed, but the traditions were
preserved in fragments by apprentices, secret practitioners,
and societies of brujes that managed to keep themselves
hidden. The brujes kept these traditions alive and now
seek to rediscover the knowl…
