I've seen Reed Van Dyk's ATONEMENT twice now, and I'm struck by how fair it is to its three main characters, who couldn't be more different but are inextricably connected by a deadly firefight during the Iraq War. I reviewed this modest beauty for the @latimes.com.

Not since MEGALOPOLIS have I encountered a film like DIGGER, which similarly has massive ambitions to tell a sprawling story about The Way We Live Now. In both cases, I don't think the final product works at all, although I do find each movie genuinely fascinating in its failure.
