DIGGER is very much the sensation of a very dim person talking to you as though you were the very dim person. It is, in other words, a classic Iñárritu joint.

And I will never blame the non-techies for this. Our entire culture is built on the delusion that all of these rich tech guys are actually smart. It's a bipartisan delusion we still haven't broken. This is all on the tech industry. They broke it. They smashed it up on purpose with a baseball bat.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Horror Movie Recommendation Every Day in October Unless I Forget: INVADERS FROM MARS (1953) One of the best horror movies ever made from the perspective of an imaginative child. An oppressive, colorful sci-fi nightmare with one of the most unforgettable endings I’ve ever seen.

The fact that Trump does something worse than Watergate *every week* does not retroactively make Watergate okay. But god, how they want to make Watergate okay, to remove any historical precedent that says a president can be held accountable for their actions.

I’m not going to post that EBENEZER trailer. I’m just going to say it looks like Johnny Depp ripped his entire performance off from Sam Campbell’s “Clockman” in GUY MONTGOMERY’S GUY MONT-SPELLING BEE. Except Clockman is funny. And Clockman doesn’t need ghosts to do his time-centric shenanigans.

BEWARE BOIÚNA is what you'd get if Tobe Hooper, in his prime, directed the original ANACONDA. It's nasty, it's brutal, and it's destined to be called "underrated" because that's what happens when a vicious monster flick gets dismissive reviews when it first comes out. My review, at @thewrap.com!

Watching THE BRIDE! again today just made me realize how relevant its portrayal of feminine rage is and remember that it's incredibly punk rock. It's not perfect but it's an extraordinary work of art from a female filmmaker that is worthy of reassessment.

“If critics are scared of what we aren’t expert in, then we don’t seek out what’s new to us, and what is our fucking point then?” Valdez is talking about American critics eschewing international art because they’re not “experts.” He’s right. This also applies to animation, queer art, etc.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Robert Pattinson and Skyler Gisondo are excellent in PRIMETIME, but Merritt Wever's performance is above and beyond. God tier, even. Alas, the film has only note: It's wrong to exploit human suffering for ratings. That note resonates but PRIMETIME hits it so often, so hard, it soon becomes flat.

There is VERY little asexual representation in popular culture. THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS does a wonderful thing by acknowledging demisexuality directly, casually introducing it to audiences who may not have known it was even an identity, and treating it as a perfectly okay thing to be.
