I became obsessed with the ARG that was associated with this album. Even though mp3s were exploding at this time, I insisted on getting the physical CD because it would change color from the heat of being played and reveal codes that related back to the ARG. It was more than just another NIN Halo.

this is a very thoughtful and nuanced piece. i think this paragraph is especially important to keep in mind. a lot of people are talking about geller as if he has spent the last ten years doing his best to atone for what he did, or asking if ten years of "good work" can outweigh one rape.

Regardless of whether or not you believe that rapists should not have to disclose their histories of sexual violence to their co-workers, I don't think Geller should have agreed to collaborate with me - especially for a video about James Franco - knowing that I've often written about living as a survivor of sexual violence (which I assume he knew because he knew of me and it was the subject of my most popular essay). I feel as though I was a small link in a larger chain of survivors used - deliberately or not - as props in a greater project of image rehabilitation. Every collaboration Geller did with an outspoken victim of sexual assault helped to legitimize his public image, and it seems none of us were given the choice of making an informed decision whether or not to support that project. While it's possible that Geller has deconstructed, his actions don't align with the argument that he's spent the last decade "accounting."

Adding to the slew of campaign promises Mamdani has broken: Personally deploying the NYPD to assist ICE agents in an arrest.
After yesterday's Politico report, we can now confirm Zohran directly deployed the NYPD SRG to crackdown on protesters who were protecting a Nigerian man from being assaulted and arrested by ICE agents. A violation of his pledge that NYPD would
"Under no circumstances" assist ICE agents and, of course, his promise to disband the SRG. ICE arrests were not allowed at hospitals until 2025. By sending his police force to drag away the crowd and clear a path for the ICE agents (whom his NYPD officers helped load the undocumented migrant into their car), Mamdani himself ultimately assisted ICE in arresting this poor man.

Collective punishment is weird. Red states have citizens who didn't vote for Trump and do not have the economic privilege to easily leave them. The Mississippi Delta is one of the most impoverished areas of the country and is majority Black. They desperately need aid regardless if the state is red.

winning the Governor position works there is that they have to win popularity in each of the districts of the state. Those districts are purposefully gerrymandered to reduce the effect of Black votes. It's structured to keep a democrat from ever winning in that state.
