brings me no joy to say that Fukuyama nailed it
But supposing that the world has become "filled up," so to speak, with liberal democracies, such that there exist no tyranny and oppression worthy of the name against which to struggle?
Experience suggests that if men cannot struggle on behalf of a just cause because that just cause was victorious in an earlier gen-eration, then they will struggle against the just cause. They will struggle for the sake of struggle. They will struggle, in other words, out of a certain boredom: for they cannot imagine living in a world without struggle. And if the greater part of the world in which they live is characterized by peaceful and prosperous liberal democracy, then they will struggle against that peace and pros-perity, and against democracy.

A large, diverse Western democracy elected far right forces, then ousted them in a close election for an old pol over 75. Then the far right haphazardly attempted a coup, most visible in rioting at federal buildings that January. Four years later, voters returned the far right to power. Which one?

These traitorous goofs offered up our FRESH WATER????? Full exposé on these idiot Alberta separatists here: archive.is/rhGUj
Excerpt from the Globe article reads: “A Globe and Mail investigation has found that Republican political operatives were on the ground in Alberta this year to assist the separatist campaign in its bid to leave Canada, while harbouring their own aspirations for the province to secede.
The Globe also found that when Alberta separatist leaders went to Washington to meet with the U.S. State Department, they offered up key assets from the province's resource portfolio, including access to fresh water and royalties on crude oil, in exchange for help transitioning to independence.
Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta's pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.”

This NIMBY is fretting that upzoning will cause gentrification in a community that is 85% white, with a median household income of $175,000, and a median home price of $1.2 million.
Nextdoor screenshot reading "The quality of life for Winslowians will take another notch down, and fewer outlying folk will bother coming into town.

I'm not picking on this property owner, Charlie Wenzlau, or Windermere. I'm illustrating how COBI and development interests and the well heeled are gentrifying Bainbridge Island to our detriment right under our noses, beginning in Winslow, but surely coming to a neighborhood center near you. There is too much money being made, and there are too many affluent people fleeing ruined places, to stop it now.

The upzoning is a gift to the buyer, the seller, and to COBI, but it's not free money - there's a price to be paid, and it's paid by the rest of us who, in addition to the increased traffic, decreased parking, and other day-to-day resource scarcity issues (e.g. healthcare, etc.), will soon be forced to restrict our own water consumption to make room for the new arrivals. "

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."
