She'd be shocked and unhappy I left academia, but she couldn't yet know how much academia would ruin our mental health in the end. Writing own ttrpgs, picking up photography, goth gigs and club nights and travelling I've shouldn't seem too bad though. (But she'd ask where's the novel.)

To add to this, rushing to disavow ever enjoying art after learning that the person who made it is awful can also ring false, even disingenuous. We should be able to sit with the fact that quality of art / impact it had on us and moral character of the artist aren't linked.

Had an brilliant game of Mum Chums this evening as part of the Games on Demand area at Tabletop Scotland. I'll be offering to run games in the Games on Demand section tomorrow at 11am-1pm and 8pm-10pm, then on Sunday again at 11am-1pm. Come and play!

You cannot design away bad players in a tabletop rpg. You cannot build enough guard rails to stop bad faith play. The only rule that helps is, "Play With Better People." Because those guard rails suck for every good faith player that has to bump into them, design for the people who WANT to PLAY.

It's okay to prefer dubbing but wtf is this "I don't like it, so it's bad and worthless" take. You get tone and emotion from oroginal actors. What's spoken matches lip movement. You get a bit of a feel for another language.

I can't believe the amount of recent history revisionism in the UK. Response to Polish immigration was so severe that it successfully led to Brexit. BREXIT. And tanked British economy. This happened last decade, you can just Google it.

Potentially hot TTRPG take. It's absolutely true we need more RPGs inspired by non European cultures. But we don't need less European RPGs, we need more of those as well. This is especially true of Eastern Europe (where there's few) but it's true of Western Europe. We don't have that currently.

Photography is a hobby I've been neglecting recently (I'm trying to change it now). I haven't posted a picture in a while, but I'm actually quite happy with this one.

This so much. During my PhD I tried writing rough first drafts - it was a huge waste of time. I then insisted on taking more time to produce proper first draft which made my supervisor nervous until he read it and said it's like 3rd or 4th draft. Everyone has a different process.

Crucially, the GLOVE has limitations, chief among them that for the device to work effectively and deliver its restraining pain shock, it must come into contact with the subject's bare skin. According to Compliant Technologies, the gloves won't work through dry clothing or thick hair. The gloves will work, however, if the subject is wearing thin, wet clothing, such as soaked T-shirts or blouses. The GLOVE also does not like being dunked in water and will likely be rendered inoperable if this happens.
