They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

if i may be very blunt, i think part of the problem here is that many people who read a lot *of fiction* and even read quite widely within *fiction* read very little nonfiction, theory, essays. (cont.)

I suspected this is probably the case. But I'm choosing my version! Also, noting Prey recommendation.

My husband introduced me to Predator 1 and 2 and my headcanon forever is going to be that these guys who go on killing sprees around the universe are considered some dangerous douchebags and a problem even on their own planet. (Maybe some other film shows it's not the case. I don't care.)

She'd be shocked and unhappy I left academia, but she couldn't yet know how much academia would ruin our mental health in the end. Writing own ttrpgs, picking up photography, goth gigs and club nights and travelling I've shouldn't seem too bad though. (But she'd ask where's the novel.)

Also, obviously, having liked something made by an awful person isn't a moral failing and never having liked it isn't a virtue.

081

Ksandra @ksandrarpg.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

Of course, you should stop supporting artists who hold repugnant views. But saying that this is why you're doing it, even though you once enjoyed their work, is actually a more powerful message than saying you never liked their work anyway.

180

Ksandra @ksandrarpg.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

To add to this, rushing to disavow ever enjoying art after learning that the person who made it is awful can also ring false, even disingenuous. We should be able to sit with the fact that quality of art / impact it had on us and moral character of the artist aren't linked.

when conservatives say “facts don’t care about your feelings” you need to understand that it is not meant to say they are committed to facts but that they are committed to creating a form of epistemological dictatorship where no one is able to disagree with their obvious lies.

People are sat around table with scattered reference cards and pens on top, all surrounding a mug on a gaming aid in the centre. The mug says "Cuppa Scene" on green text on a salmon pink spot.

You cannot design away bad players in a tabletop rpg. You cannot build enough guard rails to stop bad faith play. The only rule that helps is, "Play With Better People." Because those guard rails suck for every good faith player that has to bump into them, design for the people who WANT to PLAY.

It's okay to prefer dubbing but wtf is this "I don't like it, so it's bad and worthless" take. You get tone and emotion from oroginal actors. What's spoken matches lip movement. You get a bit of a feel for another language.

I can't believe the amount of recent history revisionism in the UK. Response to Polish immigration was so severe that it successfully led to Brexit. BREXIT. And tanked British economy. This happened last decade, you can just Google it.

Post on X Remember in early 2000s thousands of Polish men immigrated over to UK cause their economy crashed but no one said fuck all cause they came to work, minded their own buisness an left our kids alone.....

Response Most Poles who emigrated to the UK in the early 2000s remember something completely different and photo of xenophobic graffiti
