I told my wife, who works in the mental health profession, that there's all these people who believe AI models can feel pain. She immediately responded with "are these people who struggle to identify their own emotions?" I think she hit it with one shot

Again, if the 🇺🇸 media covered the GOP as it actually is, & the way foreign far right authoritarian parties are covered, behavior like this would spark a wholesale change in 🇺🇸 political journalism. This? It won’t even make headlines tomorrow, & the Sunday shows will platform a dozen GOP politicians.

Hypothetical: a president publicly discloses a private cell phone number to encourage millions to intimidate and disturb a legislator to pass a bill. It meets the criteria for state criminal harassment. Immune under Trump v. United States? Or official conduct that can overcome the presumption?

there’s so much to unpack here.
Stacks of Dude Wipes. The packaging is black on the left and orange on the right. The left has a white toilet with a pumpkin sitting on it with the :o expression on its face. Lucky for us, it says “plant sourced fibers” on the packaging.

The scent…flavor…? is “DUMPKIN SPICE” and no, that is not a typo.

Some packets have a sticker that says “XL WIPES 99% WATER AND PLANT BASED INGREDIENTS” others claim these are flushable wipes.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FLUSHABLE WIPE YOUR PLUMBER WILL HAUNT YOUR ACTUAL ASS DONT DO IT.

I would advise people not to talk to USA Today for any reason, about anything ever, based on this thread. It's bad enough that the whole profession is circling the drain, but for a remaining publication to feed interviews into a slopifier without telling sources? When it's about SA? I just.. 🌋

I've been a journalist for 35 yrs &never done anything like this. Esp in this area, I can't think of anyone reputable who'd do this. I hate this happened to you & IMO it's not ethical. IF it were possible they were going to share yr interview internally, you should have been told up front at MINIMUM

Khashoggi's assassination was in hindsight one of the highly salient norm-shattering moments of impunity that helped recalibrate contemporary expectations for outrageous crimes: if you're rich & powerful enough, in the words of the President of the United States, "they just let you do it"

While digging around their website, I found their ethics policy—including a section on AI-generated content. I suspect that’s a part of what happened here. And I’m upset about that too! I did NOT speak to a journalist with the assumption that my interview would be funneled into producing AI slop.
